I have recently got into road biking and am keen to get into racing.

Living in Switzerland, I am keen to head somewhere this winter to get some coaching over New Year holidays. Any recommendations are welcome.

Depends how much dough you have to spend.

My Top Places (if I had a spare few 20K or so to spend)

Australia, (its summer when its Winter in the Norther Hemi.)
Tenrife (sp?), super climbs, hear its great. (aka Canary Islands)
Southern Calif.; again supposedly you can ride year round and with a vest and arm-warmers in the winter... some day.

easy: fly, with Swiss Air, from Zürich to Palma de Mallorca. (from zurich there's a direct flight even in winter, Team SKY riders fly there from Zurich too)

The problem with Tenerife is that it's very difficult to string a flat ride of any length together. At that time of the year I'm guessing that you won't have much Swiss tarmac under your wheels so it can take a few days riding and recovering on Tenerife before you find your legs and lungs. Your week may be almost over before you're able to get any decent work in. That was my experience anyway last year. I'd go for at least 10 days if you can afford it and get the time off work! Good luck, I'm jealous!

Ps Majorca, you may be lucky at this time of year but it's a bit of a lottery in late December/early January weather wise

Calpe/Benidorm offer plenty of choices and much cheaper than Tenerife/Mallorca.

The TDU is on January 20th to 27th 2013 which isn't quite the right time for you. In fact the last two weeks of December/first week of January probably isn't a great time for cycle touring in most parts of Australia as it is peak holiday season and there are a lot of cars on country roads. Still at that time of the year you would be able to hook up with club rides virtually anywhere in Australia apart from the tropics.

been to gran canaria in late november before and have to say it was an excellent escape and vg island for riding - lovely hills and fantastic people .

its a good option imo
