You mean Hector Alvarez? Went for an early attack, just excited to race high level after his early season injury. and he paid for it. Fourth place is not bad though. He is just 18 years old like Finn.
That is possibly who I saw, didn't see who got 4th place..I thought it was another rider drilling it for a meaningless 4th..out of the medals, off the podium ..prize was pride only.

* I just checked, you are right it was indeed Hector Alvarez out of the saddle going for solid forth*

Havent really watched a second of these RRs yet. How's the circuit?
The climbs are hard and the biggest difference maker is definitely the cobbled one. The rest of the course is quite leg-sapping – fast, shallow descents with a short rise every few hundred metres between the Kimihurura and the golf course. It's twisty but wide, and both the climbs come after slow corners.

All of the races have been quite gruelling and a bit of a survival of the fittest. Finn and Gery were both clearly the strongest, Hudson second only maybe to Noval but better than everyone else. I don't think the circuit makes for particularly tactical racing, but that said all the winners have made good decisions which have put them in race-winning positions. Conditions look hard, too, but it's basically pure Pogacar fodder.
