Yes but that solo should have been called back to work with the team, not 20km of riding 10 sec ahead. Also letting the Norwegian disrupt the peloton is not a great tactic. A proper Remco would have talked his ear off.

What team? The only other Belgian in that group is Sentjens, their sprinter.

The Netherlands had 3 riders for a very long time in that group? If you don't sacrifice someone then (someone dropped a few times and came back, they could've used him at the front at some point) you're beyond stupid. Same with Australia, they have Chamberlain and don't do anything while they have 2 others there (who won't be strong enough to win or come close anyways).

I don't think it would've mattered knowing who's in front, but still they didn't even try.

EDIT: seeing thet come back to under 30", they definitely could've done more.

A real shame that after the Slovenians were spent, it's now only 1 French working... All the work for nothing. But the lead group is also spending a lot of energy with accelerations now.
It can still go either way, but if the lead group just keeps the pace up high enough without soft pedalling / accelerating, it should still be for the lead group.

As they are all very good riders / leaders in their own country, I reckon most of those kids in the chase group don't want to work unless they are explicitly told so.
They all think they have a chance .

It's a catch 22.
A good rider can close a 25s gap, but the moment the chasers are at 25s, it's because they haven been going hard and at that moment nobody has the energy to close that 25s.
The moment there is a lull in the chase group and they are at 40s, someone will try and close 25s but falls 15s short.

The only way to close this is to get the peloton at 15s, but it seems no one is willing to fully sacrifice.
Strange things ofcourse can happen in the last lap, if the chase group plays games and the chasers are still within 30s.
