No way Matthews is going solely in a support role..... He'll go in an early break with people like Sagan, GvA, Valgren, etc...... I wouldn't put it past the guy to win it..... solely because of the whole lead up (and yeah, know it's a long shot).

In ITT, look for Soeren Kragh to sneak onto the podium, that climb is taylor made for him - and especially if the cold weather lasts a day longer than forecasted ;)

I just saw that the juniors do their ITT on Tuesday and then the road race on.. Thursday. What's that all about... Trying to tire Remco huh?
2 days should be plenty of time to recover from such an effort considering his age. Its all out, but not that long, so he should be good no doubt.

Yeah I was kidding with the Remco thing, since I suppose Vacek is also doing the ITT ;)

But it's just strange why it's so close to each other this year.
No, Vacek isn't doing the ITT and is only on the list of reserves. He's all in for the road race.
According to the startlist i posted yesterday or the day before (p36), Vacek is doing the ITT. I found that in a PDF file that was posted earlier this week online.
The UCI startlist is a full startlist which marks both starters and reserves. If everyone with an X next to his name would ride, countries would have four starters in the ITT. When Vacek announces his transfer to Axeon on his 18th birthday a few weeks back, he said that he isn’t riding the ITT because he wants full focus on the RR. 1+1.

Aru being confirmed for the Italian team is a bit annoying, I'd select him as a reserve and bring both Brambilla and Cataldo, one as an attacker and the other one as a workhorse if you need to set a high tempo on the Igls climb. Visconti instead of Brambilla would also be ok.
It's just a bit annoying that Aru gets a spot without even earning it, he even skipped the NC with the excuse of being sick or something like that.
On the other hand you have someone like Gasparotto who wasn't selected in 2013 or 2014, when he deserved it and was one of the few Italian riders who was able to get a good result in a hilly 250km one day race and in 2014 Ulissi wasn't even allowed to race, so not bringing Gaspa was a bit of a joke.

I think on that course Aru has to be included. He could be useful.

Hmm... those ladies on the start ramp seemed to be missing something. Such as... their bikes.
But they go 'em now.

It's very much like last year. When everybody was expecting BMC, Quick Step or maybe Sky. And I already said that climb in Bergen would suit Sunweb.

This year same situation. The climb will suit Sunweb more. The only difference with last year is that, in my opinion, Kelderman and Oomen were in better form. And Dumoulin wasn't an unknown after 2 GT's like this year. So there's still some blanks to be filled in.
Bookies have Sunweb as the favourite this year, followed closely by BMC and then Sky and QS at some distance.

Wiggle Hi5 looking super strong at the first split. The big faves quite a ways off.
But just as I post that, they are down to 4. Fahlin not looking too happy.
And Edmondson is passing on some turns as well.

One of the Wiggle teammates blew up, which could cost them some time in the end, and Boels and Canyon teams were close enough in the intermediate to make up some time on the second split... so this looks like it will be close to decide the medalists
Based on GPS, Canyon is at least half a minute faster right now. Boels was more or less equal to Wiggle (time compared to Virtu)

Does Rivera even provide any slipstream to van Dijk?
No :p , but I suppose they placed her behind Rivera for a reason ;) everyone else can stay in her slipstream, and she's the strongest by far so she doesn't mind spending extra time in the wind

Being a sprinter, Rivera will be the best starter. Can Dijk is strong enough to make up the difference.

Predictions:

BMC in the Team Time Trial
Dennis in the Individual Time Trial
Longshot (someone outside the top 20 betting favorites) wins from the break in the Road Race

Let's see how accurate my predictions are.

Aru was second last yesterday
He probably didn't even try to fight, at least try to ride like Nibali that with 65+ kms to go was already dropped by Androni pace but somewhat managed to return to the head on the race on the flat and even tried to attack in the finale and show that you have a bit of good will to do something.

You absolutely do not want the front rider to make violent accelerations ever in a TTT. It's the quickest way to blow up a team. It's up there with having the best climber lead over a bridge.

Being a sprinter cannot be why she started.

who cares if he was second last or fifty-second last as for all intents and purposes he finished pretty much in the same group as 19th place

but, indeed he really should have made the main break
