5 people have escaped (I don't know if maybe they were let out or not) but around 10 or so more people still held hostage.

can someone provide an authentic, thoughtful australian view/analysis of a 'war on terror' that would desirably be void of needless rhetoric and political platitudes like one is flooded with in america ?

i am interested b/c i find a reasonably prosperous and unaffected by terrorism saustralia, being in unique and difficult position...isil certainly did not intend to fight australia in syria and iraq, yet, they now do and here we have an apparently isis-inspired, disgusting hostage take over in Sidney.

how simple australians view their share of 'war on terror' ? are they prepared to pay the price ? was there a public discussion of sending ozzy military to syria ? do australians consider it their debt to contribute as a member of 'western democracies' or do they see the manipulation from washington ?

i know for a fact, that many europeans, despite being closer to the events, are quite confused about the questions.

in many cases, the politicians would try to sway the populace in terms of 'having the balls', ' not giving in to terror' etc... i'd reason it justified for some nations like israel. but how is it viewed in the ozzland

Rupert Murdoch ✔ @rupertmurdoch
AUST gets wake-call with Sydney terror. Only Daily Telegraph caught the bloody outcome at 2.00 am. Congrats.

oh no, remember, where Murdoch is from, and who has the highest concentration of media ownership in the world. its australia, and murdoch still owns most of the print. And the print sets the news, and the agenda.

arabs = bad.

brown people = terrorists.

australian troops good boys. so are marines. and the IDF.

Australia are innocents in Shock and Awe (terrorism by another name).

thankfully tho, the young muslimes, go to Syria to fight and dont go berserk here. This guy was not young. I think he may be a Shia, cos is Persian/Iranian.

Python, insert Australia where you have America in Nima Shirazi's great blog wide asleep in america

the economy is good. (decent) the weather is great. the lifestyle is unparalleled, that brains are sub mediocre. = good terrain for Orwell and Murdoch, or Murdoch and Orwell, or Huxley Murdoch and Orwell.

basically, we are the little brother to America. They may call Isreal the 51st state, but they are really the 52nd state, Australia is 51st

two things.

this is great for the Australian PM Tony Abbott. He was on the nose, and had been in peril as a one-term PM for the next election in 2 years. remember what bibi said about 9/11 being great for us (Israel).

and moral of the story, just remember by heart a few lines of the koran to reel off so when you get kidnapped you can get thru with ruse

I wrote that right at the start of the event, after ACF had literally posted that the "shop" had been taken hostage. I was poking fun at his poor choice of words, no more. I am appalled at all loss of innocent life, wherever it may take place.

Remember how many candidates for high office have been assassinated in recent years? Not sure there are many in the government that will take a hard stand on anything other than opposition to the US drone program.
and Imran Kahn has slayed more western females than the US drone program in all its theatres of conflict.

Imran has legendary status.

benazir bhutto was on a hiding to nothing. but tell me that the cia did not know that was gonna happen. must have been the ISI.

Her corrupt husband is like the Bandar Bush of P@kistan, with all the war armaments funneled thru him instead of the oil and fighter planes thru Bandar Bush.

ISI is the true gov't of P@kistan. Not the figleaf of the voted gov't that gets ousted in the military coup each decade.

the tragedy in the last decade is, the Americans have screwed with the cricket. say it aint so joe

Not my problem. I don't care. :)

I looked at this comment yesterday and was appalled. Today I decided to look at it again after the emotion is suppose to have subsided and remain appalled. Sure you may live in another country, where this does not affect you, but two things I'm really annoyed at. Firstly although people had not died at the time of your post, it was a pretty likely occurrence. Secondly if you don't care, why post about it, especially something so insensitive:confused::mad:

I'm not attacking you at all and you may have an explanation, so sorry if this angers you.

I wouldn't sweat it.
I work a couple of blocks away from where it all happened - at the start I posted a comment about it being xmas time and a hostage situation, so where was John McClane... Pretty anxious day with all the lock downs of our building, announcements, reports (thankfully false) about explosives planted all around the city and the pathetic media carry-on.
Humour was a big defense for a lot of us, while the media went from full *** to nuclear ***, and we were stuck here not really knowing exactly what was happening...

I understand you didn't mean it that way but it is evident that quite a few others who read the post were appalled at what you said as well. Clearly it was a misunderstanding, I'm over it now. All good. :)

....the drop in oil prices may not quite be what it seems...?....

...just got the following from a friend..

" This is likely completely backwards. Kerry probably went to see King Abdullah to try to talk him out of this crazy scheme, part of the ongoing manic-depressive influence of Prince Bandar, but the Saudis, furious with the Americans over the failure to remove Assad and the negotiations with Iran, want to pressure the Americans to follow a more Zionist line. Noticing this is noticing American Empire vulnerability, so we can't go there. Of course, we could even travel a stage higher in questioning the idea that the Saudis, as we're constantly told the 'swing producer' (despite the fact that numerous new sources of hydrocarbons have come on line in the last 20 years), actually have that much power at all. The collapse of oil prices is actually due to a collapse in world demand for oil caused by the complete collapse of the world economy caused by the predations of the 1% and neoliberalism, but we're really not supposed to notice this, so we need an alternative fairy tale."

...rouble problems...?....

"Rouble vs. Dollar Games - From a Perspective of a Russian Businessman

By Zems - Live Journal

December 16, 2014 "ICH" - "Zems" - Only the lazy are not writing about this subject today. But everyone for some reason is looking in the wrong direction. Let me explain:

- Our country has a stock of dollars

- The currency of our country - roubles - is held by other countries

- We - Russia - are planning to sell oil for roubles in the future

- Everyone who buys oil from us in the future will have to look for these roubles to buy oil

- The harder it is to look for them, the more expensive they will be

Naturally, the task is simple - we need to drop the ruble to the maximum, and then buy all that we can, giving away the dollars that are no longer needed and not guaranteed by anything. This will help concentrate all of the roubles inside the country and to assign their price independently, while holding and then releasing more money to the market.

Meanwhile there will be a short-term increase in prices and a reduction in living standards, but it's like an incision by a surgeon - a little painful at first, but then you will be healthy and strong for the rest of your life.

I am sincerely surprised by the hysteria and resentment against the government regarding the devaluation of the rouble. Is it so hard to look more than a month into the future? Everything is done correctly and wisely, so everything will be all right, guys =)"

Cheers

just an observation. Cricket - sucks in my opinion.

I think it is expected that any country which is involved with the "War on ISIL-ISIS" will have its civilian population labeled as targets.
