Salvini's machinations backfire and explode in his face, and now he looks like he's managed to remove himself from government. But with the way the Italian economy is going this could be a mixed blessing for him.

I'm of the opinion that the easiest way to finish any sort of popularity for Salvini and Lega is to let them have power for a year or two, with the economic reforms they've promised it's either a huge debt crisis or huge spending cuts, neither of which are particularly popular. And with how turbulent Italian politics is (think, just five years ago Renzi looked untouchable, and just last year M5S won an election) it's not unlikely that their support would collapse

When I watched this I was fascinated. One thing that has struck me over and over..seeing people comment on how no democracy is dynamic. All the debate and discussions stiffle the ideas ..said here the shortest distance to achieving the goal connects with China.

With most of the Western media saturated with the UK election and Trump's impeachment, Suu Kyi's appearance at The Hague has sort of gone under the radar. What a sad story this is, from Nobel Peace Prize (I know, the winners are often a joke, but she seemed genuine at the time) to accused of war crimes. She really doesn't seem to have any good answer to the charges. At one time in the past, she seemed to claim she had no power one the military to stop the genocide, now she seems to deny that it happened at all, or that if it did, any killing was self-defense. Or at best, "let us handle it internally."

there's more going on here than meets the eye, and the western media covering it are being very myopic and sanctimonious...
She's clearly defending her country as any patriotic leader will, however there's much more going on in Burma than they'd want the world to see.
We're not silly enough to not realise that the military still holds a great amount of power, and act on their own volition, as they're clearly behind the goings on in Rakhine.... Unfortunately, Aung San can't just take them to task on it and admonish them for it - she and the NLD know that if the generals get the hump, they can overturn all her hard work in an instant. She's walking a tightrope as she tries to reduce their power and influence, so that the country can fully become democratic.
And the sanctimonious west's carry-on cannot be helping, while the generals are hanging over her and the country like a guillotine on a hair-trigger...
