What is my side?

You full of it if you think the President reacted correctly. HE JUST sent the director of HOMELAND SECURITY today! My comparison between the two administrations are spot on. THEY BOTH failed the people of the Gulf Coast regions! This is not made up so do not try to make into me bashing one side or the other. They both =fail.

The focus of the spill is and has not been correct with the entire media within the USA (imo). These guys have had bigger fish to fry. They want wall street and Arizona on the front page. That is the facts.

Anyone can Google some reports. That is easy. But what about full time focus on coverage and experts? Where has that been?

Maybe you have me confused with some conservative right wing nut. I think my opinion of your argument is something that can not be posted.

The “Coast guard GUY” you refer to was a Woman. That is how much news you have seen on this? WTF you do not even know that the coast guard commander was a woman and that she made a great statement after the vessel sunk that the oil was not leaking and the environmental damage would be minimal.

Your last comment says class like no other! Thanks alot ,,,,, I am still sore that President Bush ignored "MY FAMILY" and friends who did die during the storm. HELL yes I am sore! My *** hurts everytime I think about driving back and forth from Houston to take water/gas etc. during those days!
See for me this is round 2, five years later it is going to set this area and my family back for another 20 years. SO I AM SORE THAT PRESIDENT OBAMA has decided to ignore this for over a week. HELL YEAH I AM SORE .....

Your vitriol against the president (and just to set the record straight, I'm not at all happy with his results), does not seem to be balanced, in at least equal measure, with a loathing for the culprits: namely BP.

Funny how you republican guys can't stand government when it "interferes" with your capacity to make and hold on to bucks, but the moment big business makes a collosal f-up, as in this case, you expect them to save everybody's arses. Business should be permitted to allow unbridled greed to reign over the economy (deregulation), but then have the government clean up the mess when the party's inevitably over.

This environmental disaster should have been a wake up call to end the madness of our addiction to fossil fuels, instead it has become a rotten egg throwing contest against the government. This situation should have ended long ago, the one that also led to the collapse of finacial capitalism two years ago; and yet it is one we will be enduring for many years to come. Obama's presidency, unfortunately, is only a confirmation of this. His has been all rhetoric and appearance, without much substance. Change is still but a philosopher's pipe-dream.

more from her today. and this is your Tea Party. save us please.

If you want to read a lengthy article that demystifies some of the 'grass-roots' nature of the Tea Party, read this New Yorker article. Seems that much of Tea Party activities are being paid for by the billionaire Koch brothers who are using the Tea Party ethos to push their own agenda - that is deregulation, looser environmental restrictions, and whatever else billionaires will do to advance their own wealth.

Its not about the US. I myself am not an American. Neither is Hitchens.

Didn't I just read in his autobio that he became a US citizen a while ago, when he had his epiphany and switched from idealist marxism to idealist neo-conservatism? You could argue that would make him American.

Just making the point for housekeeping really, as I know he didn't argue the case for invading Iraq purely on the basis of potential benefits for the US.

Hitchens seems quite romantically/idealistically committed to the concept of a right-wing democratic US bringing liberty and prosperity to the world while being blind to the faults of his chosen -ism, just as he once was to Marxism. Different approaches, same idealism, but both seem to occasionally blind him to harsh realities.

Tea, Sarah, and silliness

Hey there to the Americans reading these posts,

Please tell me the stuff I read and see on the news about the increasing popularity of the TP and Sarah P is a bit overblown.

For the record, I am not anti-American, and I can understand the frustration with govt. But Palin? She seems to be a pretty vapid and vacant piece of work, who is now simply cashing in. And while the TP might be hitting high on the ideals, the roots do not seem to come from the grass if you know what I mean :D

Election day. Most will vote across party lines. The rest will vote for the guy with the best haircut.:(
What you really have to do is try and pick the candidate who lied the least.
After all,its all bull excrement anyway.
Politics is all about ego, power, and wealth.Self interest if you will.
This country would really roll if there were some way to eradicate all the corruption. How about public hanging if your caught?!;)

Im not american either but have been reading Us newspapers and political articles for years.

Its true the tp are getting a lot of support unfortunately.

But i think in america a lot of things are overhyped.

I dont know where your writing from and im sure its a real surprise, but i know here in the UK coverage of US politics is simplified and condensed to give people nice stories. Hence people do overestimate Sarah Palin. People think she will run for pres. Me, i have heard analysts i trust and insiders laugh of that suggestion. There are a lot of reasons why she is unlikely to seek it, and even more why she would fail to even get the nomination.

Like i said overhype. 2 years ago Obama was the new hope (to many he was the saviour of mankind, nothing less) Now hes supposedly a lame duck. My bet is, in 2 years hes a great hope again. Then lame duck after 2014 mid terms and as all 2 term presidents, exits on a bit of a low.

The point is he never was any of those. He was overhyped in 08 and his political problems today are grossly overhyped. And the tp are also overhyped. the media says they will take over america. they have absolutely no forward thinking logic in them whatsoever. Ask a tper what will happen in 2012 and they think people will just throw obama out because he was unpopular in 2010. Id say he has a 90% at reelection. My guess is 2 years from now the tp will be forgoten.

See post above. There are lots of dumb people here.

But even the Republicans know that Palin is a threat to their ability to seize the White House away from Democrats. So it is not as serious here as you fear.

I saw the amount of hope vested in Obama (and the joy and relief after he was elected) as indicative of the despair people had come to feel during the previous (G W Bush) administration. That hope and sense of relief was felt around the world, as was fear at the possibility of McCain & Palin being in charge.

There was a similar feeling in Australia in 2007 when the Howard government was ousted after about 12 years. Many people felt they no longer needed to be ashamed of their country. Many people felt that society & government could now return to the more progressive and humane mode that had preceded this particular government. There was a huge sense of relief. But things had changed in the meantime, the new government was fond of PR spin so its credibility fell and they made some unwise strategic manoevres so the hope for a better future fell away. I'd be surprised if that sense of hope returns in a hurry. We are an extremely cynical electorate now.

Doesn't that make the threat greater? I would like nothing more than for the Redumblicans to nominate Palin in two years, it's gotta be worse than just about anybody else even they can come up with.
