Exactly. Considering cycling doesn't really get less popular in traditional nations (the only problem being less kids are born and the kids that are born are less likely to take up a serious sport with all the youface and mytube things) and there is a bandwagon effect in some other countries, competition in 5-10 years time will be even fiercer than it is now.

Good article by Inner Ring about junior world champs when they move to the pro ranks. Don't read too much into the junior road race, but a junior doing well in the time trial could hint at a successful future career in the pro ranks.

Could also be because of clinic material. It's well known Scanlon quit due to the Culture of Pro Cycling.

Ulissi has done pretty well so far. He's only 23.

Le Bon and Stuyven are yet to turn Pro, but are future classics prospects,
with Le Bon finishing 11th at the u 23 ITT today.
