Technically speaking, the difference between some of those teams to BMC are:

Phonak guys still control BMC minus Floyd Landis.
Astana's Liberty Seguros guys aren't around anymore controlling the team.

Don't know about the others but definitely Astana is reborn but BMC are the same old Phonak.

Anyone care to shed light on the other management at that time comparable with the management now of some teams?

ONLY since this year it has really changed.

Ever heard of...?
Vinokourov, Bazayev, Paulinho, , Contador, Navarro, Henandez...

See it seems similar to the riders who have been at BMC over the past two years to Phonak. There is also quite a lot of different people involed now, even if it has a few similarities. It is still unfair to do something like that anyway.

Tschopp, Morabito, Moos and Schar.

absolute horsesh*t out of your mouth. again... you even know who managed liberty seguros and who where the teambosses??

here you go in with liberty:
manolo saiz
pablo anton
juan gonzalez
herminio diaz zabala
alberto leanizbarrutia
marino lejarreta

now we go with first year of astana:

marc biver
adriano baffi
walter godefroot
mario kummer
alexander shefr
giovanni fidanza

see ANY simularity at all?? no! pls put your nonsense elsewhere

I'm not talking about riders.

I'm talking about team management.

Astana don't have the same team management that was around at the Liberty Seguros era.

BMC have virtually the same dirty management that ran Phonak.

Sorry about that Barrus. Lets.

That Omega Pharma-Lotto squad looks weak too considering the huge amount of climbing in the race.

Omega Pharma-Lotto for the Giro d'Italia: Jan Bakelants, Adam Blythe, Bart De Clercq, Francis De Greef, Gert Dockx, Olivier Kaisen, Sebastian Lang, Klaas Lodewyck, and Jussi Veikkanen.

Vaconsoleil's looks alright. Carrara could potentially do a top 10.

Lotto's best shot will be placing in a sprint with Blyth.

Yeah, because with Bos they looked amaaazing

It's the same recipe as last year: young guns who will attack and maybe come up with a surprise win or surprise GC position.

I wonder if this Giro isn't too heavy for some youngsters. The physical toll will be huge on some riders, not limited to Rabo.

I'm not a doctor, so it's just a thought.

Anyone seen a long range forecast - Image if it gets really hot there will be people dropping all over the shop.

Dropped Serge Pauwels , can´t think of a good reason to do this unless ....

* not riding to be replaced due to clinic issues

Or he's just not riding that well. Serge was pretty scathing of Sky in the Belgian Media and will almost certainly be leaving the team at the end of the year.

Personally Im not sure of the guys commitment to cycling. Hes a smart lad, already got a degree and by his own admission last year was interrupted by his studies. A mountains classification in the Tour Down Under doesnt really reflect his ability. Cyclings a sport you need to be 100% commited to if you are to be a success. Not sure Serge has that commitment.

The same was said last year. Zoncolan, Mortirolo, Gavia, Monte Grappa... And the race turned out to be even harder than originally feared because of the total mayhem on the Dutch roads, and the awful weather in Italy. Still, the two Rabo guys who did their first GT both finished in the top-20.

Of course Rabo could send a better squad, but I think they can do well in TTT, and at least Kruijswijk is one of the favourites for the young rider's jersey...

Probably BMC have the worst line up for me, due to their clinic issues. Then Lotto, then Leopard or Rabo. AG2R have a hopeful for the top ten in Gadret, but that's really it. But then you could say the same about Sky, and others are around there too.

I look at the startlist and at the course and I have to think there will be an awful lot of non-finishers this year. Of course, a lot of riders have already planned which day they're going to abandon but I think the time limits are going to loom large on quite a few stages. Which team will have the fewest finishers?

Allthough I love this epic course of the Giro. I think it scares off quite a few riders and teambosses.

I wonder how many riders will finish this Giro :)

Weakest teams are OPL and BMC. Rabo has some young talent I'm really looking forward too seeing them perform. Specially Kruiswijk, allthough I'm afraid my expectations are a bit too high.

BMC´s new roster -

Chris Barton (USA), Chad Beyer (USA), Chris Butler (USA), Mathias Frank (SUI), Martin Kohler (SUI), Alexander Kristoff (NOR), Johann Tschopp (SUI), Danilo Wyss (SUI), Simon Zahner (SUI).

Still think that Tschopp and Frank will go for the mountains classification.

Last year we didnt expect much from Rabo too so hopefully they surprise us again. Agree on the BMC part with the others. It doesn't look like anything.

Hey... Chris Butler made it!

He's a local guy from here in Greeneville, SC. I have no idea how he'll fair in a race like this, but he is considered a "climber" so maybe he'll have a shot at finishing.

Of course he's been in Greeneville the last week or so... apparently taking a break for easter with his family. I guess he'll be hopping an emergency flight pretty soon to get to Italy.

With all due respect to the riders racing in the Giro, this looks to be, on paper, one of the weakest Giro fields with respect to the overall in a long time. Combine the weak field with this being one of the hardest courses, on paper, in a long time and it could provide some interesting racing.
