You Speculate - Lemond - 1998 Tour Stage 17

I was watching a video of the 1998 Tour Stage 17 protest ride after TVM was searched, etc., in the middle of the night.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iqmind0iH5w

My mind immediately thought -- if Greg Lemond had been in the pro peloton during that Tour, what would he have done? Would he have sat on the road with Jan and Marco and the rest? Would he have rode off and left all the crybabies behind?

I know only Greg could answer that one, but it might be fun to speculate. Lets hear what you guys think.

What if message boards didn't exist?

OK, back to the original question. I was seeking idears from the creative minded on this board, for I know there are a lot of you.

What would you do if you traveled back in time with a Delorean and found out your mom had a crush on you?

i think a more interesting question would be what was the extent of the doping on pre-armstrong postal? it is pretty safe to assume that almost everybody on the other teams, with at least one exception christophe bassons, was supplementing with illicit products.

how bad was it?

No, he would be supporting the protest at that time.
1) At that time, it was seen as police high-handedness. Only in hindsight, it looks a correct decision.
2) No cyclist would go up against the entire peloton or ever will. It would kill his career.
3) Lemond has been vociferous more against doctors and team management than cyclists except for the a few chosen ones;).

He would have said:

"frizzle frazzle frizzle froome"

What if Lance has been riding? He would have been calling in the police raids himself. He wouldn't want any not normal activity going on.

What if Syd Barrett didn't go weird and Dave Gilmour never joined Pink Floyd? Answer: Prog rockers would still get high.

This is not such a big mystery. Hamilton talked about it in-depth in The Secret Race.

Everybody was doping. The End.

It was actually an interesting video to watch.

Good to see Riis acting as patron.

Of course the UCI were keeping the events under control

I did love Julich's comments. Suggesting that this would never occur in America as there would be law suits.

Funny.

My question was much more interesting. I was seeking ideas from the creative minded too.

Yes normal Cheshire/Merseyside boundary, not not normal.

If you want a not normal accent, check out the brilliant Robert Millar after he had lived in
France for a few years. Fantastic Glaswegian/Francophile mix.

How so? Sounds like a regular Cheshire accent to me.

Sorry, I didn't explain myself well. :p I just meant that I never noticed such a strong accent when I used to watch races with his commentary (admittedly, not often ;)) so he might have dialled it down a bit over the years as a result of other influences etc. Ligget however has always sounded the same.
