Maz Jobrani and company, in the "Axis of Evil Comedy Tour" as told by Middle Eastern Americans.

Maz in this routine, has been the only comedian in many years to make me fall off my couch laughing. Nearly pee'd my pants.

Effing hilarious.

"But I said ha ha...."

If anyone can find "humor" in the post 9/11 era, I highly recommend renting/buying this on DVD.

Rhys Darby is quite funny in my view.

I'm in the process of watching Conchords at the moment. I've seen S1 before and I'm currently watching that again now. S2 will be completely new to me apart from E1, when I get around to it.

The "stilted" acting is terrific if you're into dry and above all awkward comedy (which I am). It reminds me a lot of Aki Kaurismaki films.

What I love is how, on a superficial level, the songs are crap because they serve the idea that the band is ostensibly a pair of losers. But then when you dig into it, you realise the songs are actually brilliantly written, well-produced and full of rewarding little details.

Business Time was easily my favourite song - straight or funny - of 2007.

Stephen Wright
Woody Allen
Lenny Bruce
Bill Bailey
Flight of the Conchords

I'm reading Don DeLillo's Underworld at the moment, which is a vast, dense and intricately networked exercise in voicewriting. Lenny Bruce pops up often in the story, which is basically a reflection of the last 50 years or so of American history up to 2000.

DeLillo is so good at doing these voices that he actually describes several Lenny Bruce performances, although what Lenny says in his routine DeLillo has actually written himself, long after Lenny's own lifetime.

I'm not familiar with the comedian myself, but I'm now quite interested in seeing some of his work after getting through this book. :)

Steven Wright is my favorite:

"My house is on the median strip of a highway. You don't really notice, except I have to leave the driveway doing 60 MPH.”

"Okay, so what's the speed of dark?"

"The severity of the itch is proportional to the reach."

"Did you sleep well?
No, I made a couple of mistakes."

It's all in the delivery. Love him.

Oh! And the late Rodney Dangerfield was brilliant.

Dave Chappelle does quite possibly the best "white guy" impersonation ever. He's right up there, if not above, Eddie Murphy's white guy from the Delirious and Raw days...

I listened alot to guy a couple of years ago to a comedian named Mike Birbliglia. He was very funny, and clever I thought.

As an aside, those of you that have favorites in multiple languages, implying that you get the humour in the other language, have my complete respect.

While I can speak and understand a second language, I still struggle with the humour.

Or the other Wrightism:

"I'm going to get a tattoo of myself....only bigger".

I still miss Dave Chapelle, though.

I'm a fan of Stephen Wright as well. Some great one-liners:

"I went to a restaurant that serves "breakfast at any time." So I ordered French Toast during the Renaissance."

"Yesterday I parked my car in a tow-away zone... When I came back the entire area was missing."

"I busted a mirror and got seven years bad luck, but my lawyer thinks he can get me five."

"If Barbie is so popular, how come you have to buy her friends?"

Also like Dangerfield, George Carlin, and Stephen Pryor.

Dave Chappelle is (was?) the absolute best when it comes to racial humour. "The black white supremacist", "The N***** family", and most of all "The Racial Draft" always crack me up, even after seeing them a hundred times.

"Konichiwa, b*tches!"

"Just cause I like chicken and water melon, there's something wrong with me? Let me tell you something: if you don't like chicken and watermelon, there's something wrong with you!"

Mine would be Joel McHale. He makes fun of reality TV, miley, and has his own show on E - my hero :)

I saw an HBO special last year of an Aussie comic that was one of the funniest things I've ever heard. Problem is, I can't remenber his name. He had a great story about taking his Dad to the World Cup in Germany. While they were on a crowded train full of fans his Dad piped up and loudly said "this is how they used to transport the Jews!" Anyone know who this guy is?
