Senechal vs Bennett at 4 Days of Dunkirk. With Kudus out I've got no one to defend against Parra at Tour d'Azerbaïdjan...

Update 5.2 - MVA is the MVP, Senechal Shines, but we passed on Power

Former game leader Hilltopfinisher is back close to the top thanks to Michael Valgren Anderson and Florian Senechal's strong performances in the 4 Days of Dunkirk. The Tour of Azerbaïdjan, didnt contribute as many points as might have been expected, with the absence through injury of Kudus and Parra and Ludvigsson only able to pick up a few points, and Van Der Haar not able to replicate his performance there in the 2013 2.2 ranked race. Robert Power, not selected on any of the teams, is now the best scoring rider from 1995, or first year under 23, beating the likes of Mads Pedersen and Tao Geoghegan Hart.

Elsewhere Herklotz, finished 3rd in Szlakiem Grodòw Piastowskich to net 66 points and with his Team Stölting squad ambitious to be ProConti in 2015, they'll be looking for similar opportunities to shine for the rest of 2014 and the young German will next turn his attentions to improving on his very creditable 25th, last year, at Bayern Rundrahrt. There were also victories this week for Danes Cort and Asbjørn Kragh Andersen and Slovenia Primoz Roglic, all unique picks to waleweter, The_Amateur and Geraint Too Fast respectively.

Hilltop leads the weekly scoring followed by u23 blogger Vlaanderen90 with Herklotz and Senechal and Evansisthebest with the same duo. Ingsve pairs Valgren with Marcus Hoelgaard (a rider he kept faith with from 2013) who scored 15 points in Poland. Justsomeguy has another strong week thanks to MVA enough to take him ahead of BYOP in that crucial battle and takes joint 5th place on the week with al_pacino and Fus87. JSG also leads the weekly movers with a 15 place jump equaled only be Evansisthebest.

Update 5.3 - Craddock clings on for podium points

The biggest point scoring riders this week came from the Tour of California with Lawson Craddock's podiums on Stage 3 and on the GC pulling in 110 points. Adam Yates rich vein of form continued with 5th on GC, and a couple of 4th places. It will be interesting to see if either, but particular Yates can bring these kind of performances to the World Tour stage, whether it be at the Tour build ups of perhaps Poland. Lupetto's gamble on Acevedo, who scored 50 points - over 100 points less than from the same race last year, still looks far from paying off.

At Vuelta a Castilla y Leon Alexsey Rybakin scored 59 points rewarding Ram and Kazistuta's faith in him. Bennett again pulled in the points with 48 for 2nd at Garmin Velothon. Ram again was on to a winner with his selection of Carter Jones. Ram, the only entrant not to turn a profit in the inaugural edition of the game is one of the first to do so this year and indeed after a particularly strong week and due to not using all of the budget (only 577 points spent), if the game was ranked by return he would lead by 5 percentage points.

Topping the weekly charts Allobroges with Craddock and Bennett's scores complimented by Rudy Barbier's 55 from Picardie. In second and third Bellsax and BYOP the only teams with both Craddock and Yates.

At the top Skidmark applies the pressure on the lead, just 32 points behind, Oliveria is also within 50 points. Both teams feature Sam Bennett, who should score well during this weekend's World Ports Classic, so the likelihood of a new, 5th leader of this year's game is a high probability.

Update 5.4 - Oliviera Overwhelms

Although Bennett appeared to be the greatest threat to the erstwhile leader, it was in fact an enigmatic performance from Alexander Foliforov at Ronde de I'Isard and combination of speed and toughness from Niccolo Bonifazio in the Tour of Japan, that saw Oliviera take over the lead and earn the white jersey. The young russian took two stage victories but couldnt stick with the pace on Stage 2 of the 2.2 french race and had to settle for 7th on the GC, while in the far east the young italian was one, indeed the last, of only 41 riders to finish the penultimate stage and so earned the chance to improve on his second place on the second stage to net the stage win and even take 3 points from the GC.

Bennett did take 10 points, but could have been so much more, if he could have improved on his 23rd in the first stage. He was outshone by Louis Verhelst, who was the best placed rider not to benefit from bonifcations to take 10th on the GC. Over in Norway 2 young riders from Tinkoff-Saxo, Hensen - (unique pick for karaev) and Beltran grabbed some points. Karaev paired Hensen with Enger to be the weekly leader.

Also of note this week was Luke Davison's 15 point win and Mattieu van der Poel's first CQ points.

Update 6.1 - After the Giro

In a dramatic week for CQ games, with as many as 2000 CQ points being scored in the main game, and the conclusion of the Giro game, there were plenty of youth game riders scoring well this week. Sebastian Henao was highest scoring rider from the Giro with 66 points this week, but the likes of Polanc, Poljanski and Godoy all managed to finish their first 3 week race. In the espoirs ranks Teunissen took out Paris Roubaix u23, Reinders took second at the Tour of Berlin and Ewan won the select group sprint for second in italy. At the 2.1 Tour of Estonia Oliviera's unique select of Grosu again paid off, with 146 points, to help extend the lead at the top.

In Germany Herklotz didnt quite have enough to make a massive impact, as Bennett notched up another win. In Belgium Senechal was again well placed and Mattieu van der Poel again looked impressive, and should enough to suggest he will be a very satisfactory zero point addition for the teams who selected him. Again is was a 2.1 race that saw plenty of points scored with Cort and Valgren excelling with Holst and Formolo in the mix too.

There was another 1.1 win for Alexis Gougeard, who will next take on the Dauphine. While stateside at the Philly Classic another zero pointer Jaramillo continued his steady accumulation and unique pick Dion Smith took 3rd and netted 40 points for Vlaander90.

With Cort as a unique pick Walewater is the weekly points leader, Hugo combines Senechal, Gougeard and Henao for second. Oliviera is there too thanks to Grosu and hilltopfinisher follows up his Giro podium with over 200 points (from Valgren, Senechal and Henao) to take up the mantel as closest rival for the leadership. Walewater and Hugo top the high movers lists too.

Update 6.2 - Lots of points for Herklotz, nearly a ton for Teunissen

In a quiet week between the Giro and the Dauphine, two riders excelled. Herklotz rewarded those who took the gamble on a rider many would have felt overpriced while still in the u23/continental ranks, with 76 points at the Tour of Luxembourg. Sheer talent and a race programme reflecting his teams ambition, have seen the junge Deutsch cruise into profit mid-season. Following up his Paris Roubaix Espoirs victory Teunissen followed a strong prologue performance to finish in the select lead group on Stage 1, and be close enough on stage 2 to maintain a podium position in the 2.1 rated Boucles de la Mayenne.

Two teams had both these riders and they head the point scoring and high movers lists. Vlaanderen90 edges The Amateur in the point scoring but the two are matched with both jumping 21 places.

Update 6.3 - Skidmark within striking distance

Adam Yates is increasingly becoming to 2014 as Coquard was to 2013, but we still do have, just, a team without him in the top 10 in Ruudz0r, (who does however drop 5 places this week). Also this week we have a team not only losing ground to the rest but even posting a negative score as the points for Mohoric's national itt result were (presumably) reassessed. Slow Rider being the unfortunate team to combine no other points this week with Mohoric's 2 point deduction. Yates tallies another big week with 148 for his efforts at the Dauphine - but looks likely to take a rest, perhaps it is Simon's turn to impress.

Another amazing showing from a young rider in the form of van der Poel who nets 80 points for outsprinting the likes of Martens and Henderson at Ronde Van Limburg. He sits only a few points behind Bolivar as the best zero pointer in the game. A rider we all missed Hugh Carthy who won in Korea this week would better them both though with 214.

There were good scoring this week also for Dillier, Haig, and Norris among others

Weekly Top Scorers

Teams with both Yates and van der Poel lead take the top 3 spots in the weekly scoring, Ram takes 4th thanks to Yates and Norris. skidmark's 233 for the week is enough to take him into 2nd place less 20 points behind the leader.

Update 6.4 - Ram's Rocketing Ratio

A few short months into this year's game Ram has rocketed through the 200% mark, it does help that he used less than 600 points of the budget, that he spent just over 100 points of that on Formolo and Adam Yates, has been in part the secret of his success. Formolo's strong performance in the Tour de Suisse is the high score (101) for the week, but there were also strong performances from Lupetto's selection Acevedo (85), Van Baarle (55), and coming back from injuries Kudus (50) and Simon Yates (40).

Skidmark made a strong charge for the top spot with Formolo and Van Baarle, but Oliveira (who also has Formolo) gives thanks to Patrick Konrad and his victory in the 2.2 ranked Oberösterreichrundfahrt and Grosu's second place on the final stage of the Tour of Slovenia helping him offset the impact Van Baarle, to keep the lead by a mere 2 points. The top 3 are now separated by just 26 points.

Phew! 2 points away, soooo close. I need something to go right with my mediocre team in the main game.

Congrats on being #1 on the week, mc; I know it's a bit weird to toot your own horn on the update, so I figured it'd be good to acknowledge your success somewhere!

Update 6.5 - Double National Champ Mullen pulls in the points

In a week where many of the young riders in the pro peloton did well in their National Championships, one rider stood out taking both the TT and the RR. Only on 3 teams Ryan Mullen scored 90 points for the week contributing to Yellow Knight's weekly high score, Geraint Too Fast's solidification of his top 10 spot and JereonK's 4 place rise in the rankings. Formolo's 2nd place in the Italian RR was the highest single scoring performance, but joining Mullen as national champs are Valgren (Danish RR) and, one of Dim's 7 unique picks, Jacobson (Norwegian RR).

Update 7.1 - Points hard to come by

A massive total of 5 points scored in the youth game this week so no full update this time around.

Loic Vliegen, BMC's new staigiare, gained 3 points for 8th in u23 Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, and Stefan Küng, who is also BMC bound, gets a single point for 10th. The other scorer this week was Jonas Koch with a solitary point for 13th in GC at Course Cycliste de Solidarnosc et des Champions Olympiques.

2. minessa 1
2. ---Dim--- 1

Update 7.2 - A Tale of Two Riders

In Austria the youth scoring was dominated by Patrick Konrad and Dayer Quintana. Konrad's consistency on GC out performing Quintana's more glamourous stage placings by a few points. Intriguing for the game, none of the contenders are both these riders ensuring very few changes at the top of the table. Elsewhere points where hard to come by.

Update 7.3 - Geraint Gains

Apologies for the late update. Again no massive changes. Top scorer for the week Geraint Too Fast, moves up a place largely thanks to his unique pick Roglic and that rider's successful Sibiu Tour. The Romanian impact also extended to our leader, who padded his lead thanks to 30 points from Grosu at the Tour of Quinghai Lake. None of the other top 5 scored a single point. The rest of the top scorers of the week all relied on 45 points from Zilioli from the Romanian 2.1 race.

Update 7.4 - Yet again for Yates

Adam Yates continues to outshine both his brother and the rest of the neo-pro ranks, his nearest competitor Formolo was again second best to him as Yates took first place at GP Industria which he followed up with 5th at Giro della Toscana - will he get the chance to ride for his own chances at San Sebastian? Also in the points at both races was Zilioli, who closes in on turning a profit. Elsewhere one of Dim's many unique picks Erik Baska enjoyed success in Hungary, and Dayer Quintana followed up his success in Austria with 5th place Prueba Villafranca-Ordiziako Klasika. Elsewhere Dillier has 20 points so far from Wallonie - with over 100 to add in the next update.

Update 8.1 - What Might Have Been

Adam Yates did indeed get the chance to ride for himself on Sunday, and but for an unfortunate crash, may have all but ensured that he would be on every team in the top 10 of this game at the end of the year. As it stands former leader Ruudz0r still has a slim chance of breaking that trend by seasons end. At the top skidmark takes over as the closest challenger to Oliviera, who has now led for 10 updates in a row. Sylvian Dillier's strong neo-pro season continued with a strong overall performance at Tour De Wallonie. A couple of second places in 1.1 races where the next best scorers in Antoine Duchesne and Luca Chirico. The combination of Chirico and Dillier give olafjt both the high score for the week and the biggest jump. NB today's points from Poland appear in this update.

Update 8.2 - It's (Not) A Shame About Ray

Poor old Fus87. He had his heart set on the top step of the weekly podium, and this week it looked possible, with strong performances from Valgren and De Bie in Denmark, and Alaphilippe in London, but it was not to be. His hopes were cruelly crushed beneath the hobnail boots of ray200. Ray also has Valgren and Alaphilippe, but crucially was able to pick up enough points from five (!) other riders to just give him enough of an edge to beat Fus to the top of both charts.

Meanwhile in the overall competition we have a new leader as Oliveira is finally toppled from the lofty heights after weeks of domination. Our new number one is hilltopfinisher, who was also a beneficiary of the young talent that is Michael Valgren.

No doubt more changes will occur over the next few weeks as various stagiaires get more high scoring races under their belts.
