Update 12

Strong performances in Slovenia key for rote_lanterne

Having the duo of Jack Haig (98) and Egan Bernal (61) who came 2nd and 4th respectively in Tour de Slovenie was the key to doing well in this update, both of the top two had them however the addition of Antwan Tolhoek (50) who took the climbers jersey in Tour de Suisse helped rote-lanterne claim top spot, almost ubiquitous pick Fernando Gaviria (33) also contributed a handful of points. Second placed Wallenquist had three of the previous four riders and also got a decent contribution due to Nathan Van Hooydonck (25) doing well in a couple of lower level races, Ronde de l'Oise and Circuit de Wallonie. Rounding out the podium is Hugo Koblet who in addition to Haig, Gaviria and Van Hooydonck had to thank Davide Martinelli (50) and his 5th place finish in Ster ZLM Toer.

The top mover this time was Joelsim he moved up to 29th place overall, 18-Valve moved up to 37th, both of these did so thanks to riders previously mentioned. The next two however, JSG and search, moved up partly because of Gavin Mannion's (45) performance in Korea where he claimed 7th place.

Often when reviewing the last fortnights performances a lot of the same names come up over and over again so I try to have a look out for rare or unique riders who have done well, the two that stand out to me at least are Soren Kragh Andersen (59) who finished 4th in Ster ZLM Toer, he is an expensive pick at just over 30% of total budget and has returned exactly half of that value so far for the two who chose him, Ben1376 and Postmanpat. The second is unique pick Tim Merlier who collected 32 points for MADRAZO due to a 5th place finish in Ronde van Limburg.

As for the overall picture Allobroges continues to be in first place and extended their already hefty lead by a further 44 points, a strong performance in this update from Armchair Cyclist means they currently sit in third place, there is some minor movement up and down in the top ten but no huge jumps the only new entry in the top ten this week is CraZyCaLL who moves up one place to tenth, that is at the expense of Yellow Knight who fell from 7th to 11th.

Update 13: Räim strikes again

1 month ago LosBrolin was just edged out by Slapshot, but his unique pick Mikhel Räim proves himself to be very important yet again. He won the Estonian national championship and the Tour of Hungary and this time he earned LosBrolin this update's top spot. LosBrolin is the highest scorer and highest mover, with 250 points and 9 places gained. It wasn't just Räim for him though, Moscon scored many points as well (84) and he got a fair number of points from De Plus, Lammertink and Mullen as well.
Most of the top 10 scorers picked Moscon and Gaviria, interestingly enough though our top scorer didn't pick Gaviria.

Two good weeks for Hugo Koblet and Wallenquist shoots them up the rankings and onto the podium, but Allobroges again scored very well, just outside the top 10 this update, so he still has a very healthy lead. We also see Yellow Knight and the_fool_on_the_hill enter the top 10 while CraZyCaLL and Ben1376 drop out.

We've entered July, so I have included the highest scorers and highest movers for June as well. Hugo Koblet, shawnm4747 and Wallenquist scored best last month and shawnm4747, 18-Valve and search were the highest movers, moving up 8 positions.

Update 13: Torcia on a Summer High

With the Tour de France prominently outshining all other cycling races around July, we may have expected it a quiet week for the the Youth CQ Game - but on contrary, Torcia_86 finished on top this week with the biggest weekly score since March. His Etixx-duo Gaviria and Martinelli rocked the first stages in Poland, Mamykin came in high up in the gc, and Guillaume Martin finished in an impressive 2nd place overall in the Tour of Austria.

Ansimi and Ruudzor came close though, only 12, respectively 16 points behind the top scorer, with a solid climbing performance of Ruudzor's rare pick Brendan Canty making jim jump 11 places in the tight midfield of the competition.

At the top of the overall rankings a solid 9th place for Allobroges this week was enough to build up on his lead, while all of his closest competitors lost a bit of ground.

Update 14: Danish delight for Midge

Ranked last before the end of the week, it may be too late for NotMyCircus' team to enter the fight for overall glory, but Midge's rare picks Mads Würtz and Michael Gogl still earned her a first place in the weekly standings with their top 4 performances in the PostNord Danmark Rundt. Midge was closely followed by the highest mover of the week, postmanhat, who additional to Würtz had Christopher Latham finish in an impressive 3rd place in the GP Pino Cerami.

At the top of the overall table the six highest placed players had a relatively low-scoring week, all keeping their position, and with only minor changes in the standings. Allobroges will be happy to see his gap to Hugo Koblet in 2nd be extended by another 50 points though.

Update 15: JeroenK's triple threat earns the win

JeroenK is this updates top scorer thanks to two overall wins and one runners up spot, they had Sam Oomen who claimed a stage win and the GC in Tour de l'Ain, Gianni Moscon who did the same in the Arctic Race of Norway and Adrien Costa who was the runner up in Tour of Utah. Whilst none of these are particularly rare picks JeroenK is the only person to combine all three.

ansimi had Oomen and Costa but added to that with Guillaume Martin, unique pick Kilian Frankiny (4th and 7th in Tour de l'Ain respectively), and Matvey Mamykin (8th in Vuelta a Burgos).

Finishing off the podium is Wallenquist who on top of having Costa and Moscon has Odd Christian Eiking who moved into profit after his 5th place in Norway.

Elsewhere in the top ten most teams are there very much because of riders already mentioned a slight exception to this is axis and torica_86 who also had Felix Grosschartner who finished 7th in the Czech Cycling Tour.

It's not always the way but as this was a particularly high scoring update there is some real movement. Good news for the top two as they'll be talked about in the next section, Guilherme Ribeiro has leaped up to 26th place, Jpettersen 35th and JeroenK is now sitting in 14th.

Allobroges has been in the lead since March often ahead by between 200-300 points however after a very good week for Wallenquist that lead is cut to a still respectable 150 points, rounding off the podium is Yellow Knight who has moved up a couple of places to get there. The two new entries into the top ten are the highest movers Ansimi and CraZyCaLL who are now 4th and joint 7th respectively, the biggest faller in the top ten is Hugo Koblet who is down 7 places to 9th.

Because it took CQranking.com so long to upload last week's download, I've decided to skip 1 update to keep the same updating schedule; so the next one, which will be online early next week, will basically be two updates in one.

Update 16/17: Success in Canada for GP Blanco

GP Blanco is the leading points scorer for this update, the two riders they mainly have to thank are Gianni Moscon who continued his impressive season with a 6th place in Montreal and 5th in Tour du Poitou Charentes as well as Robin Carpenter who took the overall in Alberta and also finished on the podium in three stages.

In second place is MADRAZO who had a number of solid contributions the two biggest being from Lilian Calmejane who won stage four of the Tour of Spain and Tim Merlier who was the winner of GP Stad Zottegem.

Rounding out the podium is Armchair Cyclist who also had Moscon, on top of that they had Jonas Koch who finished 4th in Tour des Fjords as well as picking up some stage placings in the same race.

Highest Scorers

1 GP Blanco 419
2 MADRAZO 299
3 Armchair Cyclist 298

6 JeroenK 293
7 Jpettersen 291
8 LosBrolin 285
9 Allobroges 281
10 torcia_86 271

The weeks winner is the highest mover and their successful month sees them move into the top ten, second is Jpettersen who had Moscon as well as Matvey Mamykin whose top 25 in the Vuelta netted some decent points. Third is JeroenK who also moves into the top ten they also had the aforementioned Italian as well as Sam Oomen who finished 10th in Tour du Poitou Charentes. For three of the other high movers, Del1962, Florecita and Ludwigzgz, Daniel Hoelgaard's 7th place in Bretagne Classic - Ouest-France was an important part of their performance.

The top three remains unchanged although Wallenquist has closed the gap at the top slightly however Allobroges continues his long streak atop the rankings. As already mentioned two new entries into the top ten are GP Blanco who has rocketed up to 4th place overall and JeroenK who is now 9th. There isn't a great deal of movement aside those two with the only other new entry being torica_86 who is tenth. Nicosix is unfortunately the biggest causality of the week dropping seven places and is now out of the top ten.

Update 18: Great update for CQ game organizers
The bulk of points these last two weeks were scored by Fernando Gaviria, which means 4/5ths of our contestants scored at least 188 points. Armchair Cyclist, the organizer of the GT and Classics CQ games, combined those points with 54 points from Simone Consonni, 20 from Elie Gesbert, 13 from Tom Bohli and some more minor points. With a total of 287 he is not just the highest scorer in this update, but also the second highest scorer in September and the points move him up to third place overall. Skidmark, organizer of the main CQ game, was the second highest scorer this week with points from Gaviria, Consonni and also Dion Smith. He just misses out on a top 10 in the montly rankings.

Another winner is the_fool_on_the_hill, with a good performance by their team these last two weeks they jump 4 spots, like Leadbelly, entering the top 10.
GP Blanco performed very well this entire month with top performances in this update and the previous one. He is both the highest scorer and highest mover this month, moving up a huge 8 spots into 4th place.
Allobroges is still our leader by a comfortable margin, with a very consistent performance throughout the year it is hard to see them lose that lead suddenly.

On a personal note, I am happy to see my name in an update again 😛

Update 19: Gaviria strikes again

In the last update it was said that "the bulk of points these last two weeks were scored by Fernando Gaviria, which means 4/5ths of our contestants scored at least 188 points" - make that 229, and we have a carbon copy of week #18.

Apart from that, the amount of points scored was fairly low, so that the unique 0 pointer Alan Banaszek made the difference with his 6th place in the Münsterland Giro, securing Mellow Velo the victory this week. Hugo Koblet came only two points short though, manily due to some good points from Nils Politt and Alexander Edmondson, whereby he jumped from 12th to 7th, becoming the highest mover of the week.

At the top of the tables, things remained relatively unchanged, with Allobroges defending his ~150 points lead ahead of Wallenquist, while Armchair Cyclist and GP Blanco in 3rd and 4th lost a bit of ground.

The original final update was scheduled for the start of this week, but I'm waiting for the end of the Tour of Hainan, a few have Walscheid and perhaps other riders in the game are racing as well (haven't checked) so it seems better to do the update after the race 🙂

Update 20: Well, well, well..!

Well, well, well... what a way to finish! Allobroges led the game pretty much from the start and it seemed like he would bring home the overall victory, but youth cycling connoisseur extraordinaire Wallenquist pulled a huge upset and clinched 1st place with an amazing points haul in Hainan, thanks to Walscheid and Diniz! He is our overall victor - CONGRATULATIONS 🙂 🙂
Although Walscheid and Diniz proved to be the decisive picks of these final few weeks, another rider deserves attention: Mullen finished 5th at the Worlds ITT and 4th at the Chrono des Nations, which earned him a combined 132 points. Mainly thanks to him, the scores in this update are pretty huge.

Now that that's out of the way, let's look at the details of this final update:
This month was dominated by one person, Ludwigzgz, he tops all of the rankings except for the overall ranking. A good finish for him, but perhaps he could have started his final sprint a little sooner as his meteoric rise stranded in 13th place. A similar story can be told about snccdcno, he finishes just outside the top 10, "only" 33 points away from Josedin in 10th place.

We see a lot of movement in the top 10; we have two new entrants - Nicosix climbs 3 spots into 9th, while CraZyCaLL shoots up to 5th place. Armchair Cyclist drops off the podium, while ansimi and Hugo Koblet fall out of the top-10.

On another note, we have had a successful season: 50 (=all) teams into profit 🙂

Oh my, penultimate place! Bad expensive picks and not selecting Gaviria, Moscon and Costa among the explaining variables though Gogl, Schachmann, Lemus and Dibben were good finds only 3, 1, 0 and 0 others had. Already picked a rider I'm going to double down on for next season.

Congratulations to monster-Wallenquist and thanks for organizing LaFlorecita.

Many thanks Flo, for taking up this game and regular updates.
Just when I thought I finally had a chance of a podium on one of these games, I drop like a Dumoulin.

Apologies, youth gamers, for the very overdue Emerging Riders games 2 and 3 updates: I'll try to get something done this weekend.
