Youth CQ Ranking Game 2017

I think Flo's (aand others) assessment of the rule re including u23 riders is correct. Perhaps it could be downgraded from a rule to hint/tip for enjoying the game?

Flo - really chuffed to see this thread and the number of teams submitted already.

Hey mc! Long time no see :) I'm not quite sure what to do with the rule for now. Will brainstorm during the season to figure out what's best :)

Also I think that with the value on offer from ex-juniors with zero points there is the chance to find very profitable u23 riders and a rider such as Rohan Dennis who was available for 10 points in a 2012 version of this game and went on to score 271... so a player can be rewarded for taking a risk on riders in this category without feeling obliged to do so.

Hello everyone!

Last day to get your team in, after the deadline I will do one last check, please don't post your teams immediately because I want to give people who send their teams in just before the deadline the opportunity to correct possible mistakes in their lineups :)

We have 36 entrants so far and I'm waiting for a couple more to get back to me with replacements/amendments, so we should definitely break 40. I've listed all accepted teams in the 2nd post of this thread, if you sent in a team, please check to see if your name is in this list, if not, send me a PM just to be sure. NB this list does not include those who've sent in a team with ineligible riders.

Officially, the submission deadline has passed. The publication deadline is tomorrow, January 4th 23:00 CET.
If you'd still wish to participate, send me your team ASAP, however know that I do not have to accept it... ;) :p

Sorry Flo I didn't have time to enter this year (and thanks for putting the time to make this game enjoyable throughout the year), I barely got my main CQ team in as it is. Good luck to all and hopefully I'll rejoin the fun next year.

I still received two teams late last night and one person wanted to add a rider to their team: I have accepted all three

We have 46 participants - only four less than last year, which is great with the early deadline; the entire list is below. If you cannot find your name on the list but did send a team, contact me via PM as soon as possible

Together with snccdcno I have checked all teams another time and it seems no ineligible riders have slipped through this time - fingers crossed

Feel free to post your team from 23:00 CET on, I will post the spreadsheet and popularity data first thing in the morning :)

I've also made the spreadsheet a bit more update-friendly so if you'd like to try helping out with an update every now and then, let me know :)

I thought Gebreigzabhier might be an unique pick but he's at least at Kryvos team too. I had less time for my team this year than last but I hope I will end up in the top half of the game.

Okay, folks, here is the spreadsheet. We have 46 teams this year :)

Nice to see that some people gambled with a big-points rider. Rudy Barbier and Kristoffer Halvorsen are both on 2 teams, despite eating up over 1/3rd of the budget. Adrien Costa isn't exactly cheap either at 274 points, but he managed to find his way onto 8 teams. snccdcno even paired him up with Iranian Amir Kolahdouz (also 274 points), who is an unique pick for him for the 2nd year in succession.
The dubious honour of craziest pick goes to Squire though, who spent 915(!!) points on Timothy Dupont. A bold move, let's see if it pays off :)

Last year, we had Gaviria as the most popular rider who was on 4/5th of all teams. He ended up being a great pick - wisdom of the crowd :) We don't have a rider as popular this year, although Doull comes close, with 33 picks. As he is very cheap, he could definitely end up a great pick.
I thought it was interesting to see Gaudu so high up, considering his price tag is quite large and as a 20-year old on a WT team... I picked him as well, though ;)

Riders picked 10 or more times (for more data, check the spreadsheet)

Popularity Team
Looking at this ranking, the most popular team you'd be able to get would be the following. It consists of the 14 most popular riders, choosing Cavagna over Powless for budgetary reasons, with McNulty as a zero-pointer for the 15th spot.
GAUDU David 196
ALBANESE Vincenzo 159
RAVASI Edward 114
SCHACHMANN Maximilian 101
CAVAGNA Rémi 100
MAS NICOLAU Enric 92
CONSONNI Simone 89

GANNA Filippo 40
MINALI Riccardo 26
PETERS Nans 20
DOULL Owain 7
CARAPAZ MONTENEGRO Richard Antonio 5
CINK Ondrej 0
MCNULTY Brandon 0

With this team, you'd get a popularity score of 283, which is actually not that far ahead of what this year's most popular entry scored, defending champion Wallenquist with 253. It seems he will again be a force to be reckoned with.

This is my team, in my haste to throw together a team I only looked at WT teams and not even at all of them  I just selected the first 15 names I came across, I now regret not looking at the Pro Conti teams because I missed Albanese and Vendrame even though they are in my main game team  . Still surprisingly high up on the popularity table.

Interesting, I have five unique picks and three more with only 2-3 picks.

You just wait and see what Konrad Gessner will do - the successor of Pascal Ackermann

Rare picks are most fun to follow - scoring points feels much better when you know most others will miss out on those points :)

Great to see someone including Krists Neilants who was one of my original must-haves.

My big gambles are on Rudy Barbier and Amund Grøndahl Jansen where the latter has stated that he'll be Lotto-NL's designated sprinter for some smaller races. Good thing the bar for doing better than last season is set very low.

I discovered a big brainfart where I've included Cherkasov when the rider I was thinking of was Sivakov - but at that point I'd already submitted a team twice. So big wishes for a major budget increase for the Tyumen Region!1!

Yes, I chose NEILANDS Krists. In my first year I am the most unpopular. I bet not to choose protour riders, except CINK Ondrej.
