My team for:
Santos Tour Down Under 2.UWT
DOULL Owain
MAS NICOLAU Enric
O'CONNOR Ben

As many riders as in the main team. A little chance for Mas an O'Connor to get more than 5 points.

Update 1: Miles Ahead of the Competition (shamelessly stole that pun from skidmark :D )

First update of the season and I'm pleased to report the spreadsheet appears to be working as it should :) We've had one WorldTour event already but interestingly most points were scored at the Australian Nationals, by Miles Scotson. The 8 who have selected him must be very content as he has already almost tripled his cost.
At the Tour Down Under, we also saw several good performances by our youngsters, most notably Ruben Guerreiro who finished 7th on stage 2 and 18th overall, scoring 28 points. Top scorer after these two weeks is yours truly, as predicted by mc_mountain above (no it's not a fix :p ). It was a bit of a surprise as I only had Scotson, Guerreiro, Enric Mas (10 points) and Lennard Hofstede (5 points), but looking into it I realized Scotson, Guerreiro and Hofstede are quite rare picks which explains it :) 2nd placed GP Blanco only missed Hofstede from my list of riders, and third placed just some guy combined points from Scotson, Ondrej Cink (18 points) and unique pick Lucas Hamilton (12 points). Looking further down, the best team without Scotson is Ludwigzgz, who scored with Guerreiro, Cink and Mas.

As this is just the first update, we don't have a highest movers ranking and the overall ranking is the same as the highest scorers.

Two people have offered to help out with updates but it would be greatly appreciated if more were to step forward, we're looking at 20-something updates in total so even if you could do just one or two it would help immensely :)
Also, I've decided to leave out the monthly rankings this year, because we only have an update once every two weeks I feel they don't add much.

Update 2: Minali shines bright in Dubai

We're two weeks further into the season and most of us have started accumulating points, all but two are out of the starting blocks and on their way to a possible win in this year's edition of the game. This week's most notable performance is that of Riccardo Minali in Dubai, in the stellar sprinting field at the Dubai Tour he managed to sprint to top-15's on all stages; place 13,8 and 5, respectively, in the first three stages, but even more impressively he got himself into the top-3 on stage 5, behind Kittel and Viviani and in front of big names like Cavendish, Degenkolb and Groenewegen. This result, with the additional bonus seconds gained, earned him 7th overall, much to the delight of 20 of our participants :) Thanks to him, we scored well across the board, but to really stand out you needed something special on top of those points. This update's highest scorer, DJW, definitely had that with decently sized batches of points from Tao Geoghegan Hart and Jonathan Dibben, as well as some minor points from several other riders. Second highest scorer just some guy didn't have as many point-scoring machines but he has a secret weapon, his unique pick Lucas Hamilton who scored 62 points in Australia since the last update and is now into profit. It seems unlikely that just some guy, a very passionate but not always very successful participant in cycling games ;) , will ever forget about Hamilton because he earned him his (I believe) very first 1st place in the overall rankings of the Youth CQ ranking game, ever! Racing for a Chinese team, Hamilton could definitely score big in some of the Asian races later on in the season, which could make him a very important pick in the long run as well.
MADRAZO already had a good start but, with the 3rd highest score this update, moved up to 2nd overall, thanks to Minali and Dibben and some minor scorers.
Interestingly most of the high scorers had Minali, except for Josedin who got most of his points from Mads Würtz Schmidt's impressive third place in Etoile de Bessèges, a promising start for a rather expensive rider. This performance allows Josedin to move up 30 spots in the rankings, which makes him the highest mover.
Overall, just some guy (as mentioned) climbs two spots into 1st, with MADRAZO moving up to 2nd as I drop down to 3rd. Looking a bit further down, most notable is al_pacino's leap from 32nd to 9th, but in this stage of the game we always see quite a lot of movement as the scores are still low.

Update 3: Örken scores for snccdcno as Cink shines

The last two weeks have been quite uneventful for our game, which is slightly surprising considering the big number of points available with all the x.HC races. The most interesting performance this week was definitely that of Ondrej Cink, who showed big promise in Ruta del Sol and finished top-10 on GC in a stellar field. The 13 participants who picked him will have followed his efforts with great interest but I am sure even those who didn't pick him - me included - were very impressed by his showing.
Points were scarce - only those with Cink managed to score 50 points or more. Interestingly, many of the highest scorers were quite a way down in the rankings, which means their names also feature prominently in the highest movers list. The highest scorer, snccdcno, had already had a good start to the game though and solidifies his position in the top-10 overall, moving up to 7th. He got a nice number of points from unique pick Ahmet Örken, who fired it up in Morocco. On top of that he also scored a combined 10 points with Enric Mas and Andrea Vendrame. 2nd-placed and highest mover Pantani1, who managed to select a staggering 8 unique picks, saw that strategy pay off with 8 points for Michael Schlegel, 5 points for Kevin Deltombe and most importantly 22 points for Dan Pearson. 3rd-placed Kryvo collected points with Cink, Ryan Gibbons, Mas and an Eritrean with the most unpronounceable name ever which I'm just going to shamelessly copy: Amanuel Egerzeigzaarkha GEBREIGZABHIER .

Overall, the top-3 remains the same, but we see quite a lot of movement in the lower regions of the top-10. Laarsland has closed in on the podium and Squire moves into the top-10. Torcia_86, DJW and del1962 all drop a bit but only al_pacino was unfortunate enough to drop out of the top-10. Meanwhile, just a hair away from 10th, is AupaPyama, who moved up 10 spots to 11th overall.

Can't believe I'm in the top 10!
Especially when my most expensive pick for some reason scored -7 points this week.

Hubert Dupont finished 18th in Etoile de Bessèges which scored him 7 points whereas Timothy Dupont DNF the same race I guess the 18th place was initially credited to the latter and has now been corrected.

Update 4 - Gibbons conquers his Inner Chimp

What an update, ladies and gents. Marty completely blasts away everyone else with a massive 502 points. To put that into context, just some guy, who was first overall in the last update, had collected 354 points up to that point! Definitely, the most impressive performance in the past 2 weeks goes to Ryan Gibbons, who scored 276 points at the Tour of Langkawi. You read that right, 276, that's more than winning Paris-Nice would earn you! He added to the 160 points for the overall win with top-5's on several stages, including one win, and he scored a load of points for leading the race from stage 2 to 8 as well. Only 4 of us selected Gibbons and they are - naturally - the 4 highest scorers in this update. Personally, I thought he was a promising sprinter which is why I picked him, but I never, ever expected this!
But let's focus on marty for a bit. Besides Gibbons' 276 points, he also scored 89 with Richard Carapaz, 65 with Logan Owen and 28 with Jhonatan Narvaez. On top of that, Chris Lawless, Aldemar Reyes and Ondrej Cink scored a combined 44 points as well. So this definitely isn't just a case of one lucky pick! 2nd highest scorer was Kryvo who also scored highly in the previous update, and, let's look at what Kryvo posted after that update:
Kryvo said:
And today is time for "Zemenfes Solomon". Go Go Go!
He added to Gibbons' points with, amongst others, points from Adrien Costa, Cink and - you guessed it - Zemenfes Solomon! 25, to be exact :D
The other two with Gibbons, togo95 and me, both scored points with Maximillian Schachmann and got minor points from a handful of other riders.
"Best of the rest", shawnm4747 did well to match Gibbons score without selecting him. He got most of his points from Carapaz, Owen, Narvaez and Eddie Dunbar. Also very impressive!

Such big scores obviously create big shifts in the ranking. We see both marty and togo95 climb over 30 spots, marty even moves up to 2nd overall, while togo95 remains just outside the top-10 for now, in 11th place. 3rd highest mover was LukasCPH, who moved up 29 spots. Kryvo and shawnm4747 also feature in this list and they both move into the top-10, Kryvo into 3rd, shawnm4747 into 10th. Big jumps are almost always accompanied by big drops, so spare a thought for poor torcia_86 who drops from 6th to 24th.
In the overall ranking we also see some smaller movements, I move into 1st place as just some guy drops to 6th. AupaPyama moves into the top-10 and keep an eye on snccdcno, who has been quietly sneaking up in the rankings and is now just besides the podium. DJW, del1962 and Squire all drop out of the top-10.

Nice to read my name twice. Congrats to the lot that picked Gibbons. He fulfilled what I hoped O'Connor would. I'm also missing Minali ...

Yeah, that is a killer week for this game! Especially this early in the season. To put it in some perspective, that would put you in the top 15 for that week in the main game, where teams have 33 non-neo-pro riders! Nice work, and pardon the belated congrats.

Thanks! and no need for any apologies
It'll be interesting to see how long before some of these guys get their chance again.

Update 5: marty is on a roll!

For the 2nd update in a row, marty delivers a stellar performance. His score isn't as stratospheric this time, but he's still comfortably the highest scorer. Most of his points came from Kristoffer Halvorsen, who impressed by winning the Handzame Classic. Halvorsen, one of the most expensive picks in the game at 336 points, was only picked by one other participant, by Slapshot. Halvorsen still has quite a way to go before he turns into a good pick, but this was definitely a promising performance. Other points for marty came from Edward Planckaert and Andrea Vendrame. Slapshot only had Halvorsen and Planckaert, but that was enough to earn him 2nd place in this update. 3rd place goes to torcia_86, who scored with Planckaert, Vendrame and rare pick Frantisek Sisr.

The title of highest mover also goes to torcia_86, they climbed 12 spots into 12th place. Tych23, the only other person with Sisr, was the 2nd highest mover. Allobroges, one of last year's main contenders, completes the top-3 in this ranking.

Overall, we see that marty pushed me down to 2nd and is now our new leader. We see some other minor movements, snccdcno, just some guy and GP Blanco all drop some spots while MADRAZO and laarsland move up. togo95 in 8th is the only new name in the top-10, shawnm4747 is the unlucky one who drops out.

We see that after 5 updates, which means 10 weeks, no one from 3rd place down has a total score that matches marty's score from the previous update yet. Interesting! :) (and made me do a double-check ;) )

Update 6

I don't have much inspiration for this update so don't expect anything besides the facts :p
Many of the high scorers in this update had the Simone Consonni - David Gaudu combo: Consonni scored 55 points, Gaudu scored 45 points. LukasCPH had those 2 but also scored major points with Justin Jules (50), Eddie Dunbar (20) and unique pick Elmar Reinders (15). He is the highest scorer this update and also one of the highest movers, climbing to 8th place.
2nd highest scorer del1962 also scored with Gaudu, Consonni and Dunbar and added points from unique pick Fabian Lienhard, amongst others. He is also among the highest movers, moving up 6 spots.
3rd highest scorer CraZyCaLL had Gaudu, Consonni and Neilson Powless score big points.
Highest mover this update, climbing 7 spots, was LosBrolin who scored with (again) Consonni and Gaudu, but also with Ivan Garcia Cortina and Nans Peters. LukasCPH and del1962 share the 2nd place in this ranking with Pentacycle, who doesn't have Consonni but he got a big chunk of his points from Gaudu and scored minor points with several others.

Overall, we see that MADRAZO pushes Kryvo from the podium. Marty continues in 1st place. LukasCPH and shawnm4747 enter the top-10 while GP Blanco and AupaPyama drop out.

Let me pat myself on the back here.

For the last spot on my team, I needed a guy who cost 6 points to bring the team value to 1000. Among the available 6-pointers, there was this kiwi who I'd never heard of who got two 2nd places in the New Zealand Cycle Classic last year. Very well, I thought, at least there is some faint hope that this guy could feature in some races somewhere, which was more than what could be said about the Indonesian domestiques and Mongolian neo-pros who made up most of the other 6-pointers.

Alex Frame just got his fifth (!) win of the season today

Update 7: Lecroq's a hit.

We have a tie atop the rankings this update between CraZyCaLL and AupaPyama with Tych23 rounding off the podium. The top two are the only ones to have selected Jeremy Lecroq and that paid dividends as they got just about half of their points from his three top ten placings over the last fortnight (RvV Beloften, GP de Denain and ZLM - Roompot Tour). CraZyCaLL backed that up due to an impressive performance from Enric Mas in Pais Vasco as well as a top ten in Tour du Finistere from David Gaudu whilst AupaPyama got most of their other points from Rudy Barbier, in particular his sixth in Scheldeprijs.

This weeks highest mover is the previously mentioned Tych23 they had a number of contributing riders, most notably Mas, Nick Schultz and Jhonatan Narvaez, Roubaix had a couple of those plus Christopher Lawless, Trudgin got a chunk of her points thanks to rare pick Fausto Masnada's top ten in Giro dell'Appennino.

No change in the order of the top three although LaFlorecita has slightly closed the gap on marty. Both of the highest scorers also jump into the top ten along with GP Blanco, the three to drop out are LukasCPH, togo95 and yours truly.

Worth noting that the CQ download was posted with only the top three of Giro Belvedere di Villa di Cordignano counted so if you notice some points that you were expecting not included that is why and they will be taken care of in the next update!
