Update 8: Gaudu shines brightly

This update's most notable performance has to be David Gaudu's 9th place at the Flèche Wallonne, which scored him over 50 points. The result in and of itself is great, but what was even more impressive was the way he rode, attacking on Huy while others chose to wait and ride into the final 200 meters with Valverde. He was a rather expensive pick, but that didn't deter many from picking him, he is one of the most popular picks.
Highest scorer in this update was yours truly :) with points from amongst others rather popular picks Gaudu, Maximilian Schachmann (38 points) and Riccardo Minali (15 points), but most importantly also 40 points from Lennard Hofstede.
2nd highest scorer just some guy also scored with Gaudu, Schachmann and Minali as well as Neilson Powless (20 points) and most notably 27 points from unique pick Lucas Hamilton. Hamilton was 40 points and has already quadrupled his score
3rd highest scorer CraZyCaLL scored with the above-mentioned Gaudu, Schachmann, Powless and Minali and also got minor points from Guerreiro and Consonni.

Joint highest mover LosBrolin, who moved up 8 spots, got most of his points from Gaudu, Hofstede and Minali and got minor points from half a dozen others. The other highest mover, Pentacycle, scored with, besides some of the usual suspects, with unique pick Riabushenko (19 points) and rare pick Fabio Jakobsen, who seems like a great prospect. I will definitely keep an eye on him for future editions of this game ;)
Tych23, who moved up 7 spots, didn't pick Gaudu, interestingly enough. Instead, he scored big with rare pick Hofstede and he got a whopping 50 points from unique pick Mark Christian!

Overall, we see that I move into 1st place, as marty's team had an underwhelming two weeks. Just some guy moves up three spots onto the podium, while CraZyCaLL moves up three spots into 4th. LukasCPH enters the top-10, AupaPyama drops down to 11th.

Update 9: Colombian domination

I was quite surprised when I checked out the scores for this update, somehow several Colombians scored major points and this completely went past me :p This all happened in the Vuelta a Madrid. Hakkie2 is the highest scorer, with big points from Carapaz (50), Reyes (46) and uncommon pick Aguirre (60). He also scored 65 points with Vendrame. It's a pretty impressive total score and with those points, he is also the (joint) highest mover, moving up 13 positions, into 5th overall!

Marty, who was in 2nd place before this update, is the 2nd highest scorer, with points from Vendrame, Reyes and Carapaz as well, and also 44 points from José Manuel Diaz - who? :D , nice pick, 0-pointer, only 1 other player found him as well, just some guy ;) Thanks to marty's good week, he moves into 1st place overall again :)

3rd highest scorer is fauniera, he scored with Vendrame, Aguirre and Carapaz and is also among the highest movers.

Joint highest mover is last year's #2, allobroges, who had an underwhelming start this year after leading the rankings for most of last year. He scored with Vendrame, Reyes and also with almost-unique pick Fabio Jakobsen (30 points). Will this be the start of his comeback?

3rd highest mover is Armchair Cyclist, climbing 8 positions, main scorers for him were Vendrame and Carapaz as well.

Overall, as I already mentioned, marty moves into first place again, while Hakkie2 enters the top-10 as well as last year's winner Wallenquist and snccdcno, the unfortunate three that dropped out are GP Blanco, MADRAZO and Kryvo.

Update 10: Big scores across the board

We saw some big performances by young riders in the past 2 weeks, and although I haven't checked, I wouldn't be surprised it this was one of the highest scores in a Youth game update ever. The top-10 all scored 250 or more points. I was the highest scorer with just over 400 points :) . A big part of my score came from Remi Cavagna (136) and Ruben Guerreiro (70), thanks to their top-10 results at the Belgium Tour. I also scored points with amongst others Gaudu (48), Schachmann (29) and Mas (30). Guerreiro is quite a rare pick with only 4 picks, but I was also happy to see my other rarest picks pick up some points, Hofstede, Insausti and Gibbons.

2nd highest scorer DJW also had Cavagna and Guerreiro, but also rare pick Tao Geoghegan Hart, who scored 65 points in California. With his big score, DJW is also the highest mover, climbing 13 places. He is now in 13th place. 3rd highest scorer GP Blanco did not select Cavagna, but scored significant points with many of his riders, like Guerreiro, rare pick Schultz (62), Carapaz (59) and Gaudu. He moves 7 places and jumps back into the top-10.

As mentioned DJW was the highest mover, joint 2nd are Kazistuta and scrooll07, climbing 10 places. Kazistuta's major scorers were Cavagna, Carapaz and Gaudu and he moves into the top-10. Scrooll07 got a big part of his points from Cavagna and Geoghegan Hart.

Overall, I move back into first place at the expense of marty. Thanks to the big scores in this update, we see 4 people make a big leap into the top-10  : GP Blanco, fauniera, Kazistuta and al_pacino. Last year's winner Wallenquist, shawn4747, LukasCPH and snccdcno drop out of the top-10 but all are within 50 points of 10th place so can easily jump back in next update.

Update 11: MVDP is MVP

An interesting update in which we have not one but TWO highest scorers, DJW and snccdcno. Let's just say this is their reward for helping me out from time to time with updates - Karma is real :)
Both have the highest scoring rider on their team, in fact the entire top 8 have him: Mathieu van der Poel, who, besides beating Gilbert in a sprint at the Tour of Belgium to win a stage and winning 2 stages and GC at the Boucles de la Mayenne (and finishing 2nd and 3rd on the other 2 stages), also casually finished 2nd in the Albstadt MTB race, behind the World champion. Certainly an impressive feat and it is quite astonishing that "only" 8 people picked him when he cost just 38 points. A massive bargain (although I did not pick him :D ), with his 171 points scored in the last two weeks he turned himself into a great pick in an instant.

snccdcno also scored big points with Andrea Vendrame, who also scored at the Boucles de la Mayenne, and Owain Doull. DJW saw his British picks Doull, Dibben and Geoghegan Hart each grab a nice chunk of points. DJW and snccdcno also both feature in the top-5 highest movers, in 5th and 3rd position, respectively, and they moved into 5th and 6th overall.
3rd highest scorer is togo95, who is just 4 measly points away from the two best scorers. Besides Van der Poel, he also scored big with Vendrame and Malucelli. Togo95 is also the 2nd highest mover, jumping 12 spots into 10th place.

Our highest mover is Pantani1, climbing the rankings like his namesake climbed the mountains. Pantani1 must be very happy, because 4 of his 8 unique picks scored points in this update! Most importantly, Krists Neilands scored 45 and Michal Schlegel 28, and of course Pantani1 also selected Van der Poel.
Joint 3rd highest mover, with snccdcno, is Ludwigzgz. He is last of the people with Van der Poel in this update, but those points, plus 29 for Doull and a few handful of points for others still help him move up a big 10 positions. :)

Overall, I am still the leader with marty in 2nd. However, we see that Hakkie2 jumps to 3rd, pushing CraZyCaLL from the podium. In the lower regions of the top-10, we also see Kryvo climb 8 spots to 9th position. Laarsland, Kazistuta, just some guy and al_pacino will be licking their wounds after falling out of the top-10, they are now in positions 11 to 14.

DJW's update posted on Velorooms forum:
Update 12: Nats the way to do it!

A fairly busy couple of weeks with the Tour de Suisse and Route du Sud finishing, but more importantly a huge line-up of road nats ITTs and RRs which some young riders did very well in.

Maximilian Schachmann is the star performer with over 100 points at the German Nats. Ruben Guerreiro also cropped up with an excellent RR win, while Tao Geoghegan Hart picked up points at the Tour de Suisse and Carapaz got a strong result at Route du Sud.

Upcoming stars including Neilson Powless, Ravasi, Jon Dibben, Barbier, Cavagna and Kilian Frankiny also picked up a few points at Nats.

Also don't forget the baby Giro won by Pavel Sivakov (with Powless picking up a few points). That GC is sure to include a few good tips for next year (shame there aren't more CQ points on offer)

A huge score for CraZyCaLL who picked up big points from Schachmann and Carapaz as well as good returns from Powless and Guerreiro.

snccdcno, togo95 and I have had good weeks again in part due to MVdP. snccdcno also had Schachmann and Carapaz, togo95 had Schachmann and Powless, and I had Powless and a high scoring rare pick in Tao Geoghegan Hart.

Most of the top 10 had some combination of those riders. Special mention to Armchair Cyclist who got points from baby Giro winner Sivakov and unique pick Truls Engen Korsaeth.

Update 13: Slow weeks

While we're all no doubt enjoying this thrilling flat sprint stage at the Tour, it's time for me to look at what's happened in the youth ranks in the last two weeks. Unfortunately, it seems it was as interesting as the majority of this TDF so far :) But, the low scores aren't too surprising, in the week between the Nationals and the Tour there are hardly any races and the Tour isn't really the best place for a young rider to show his promise.
Highest scorer in this update is Tych23, thanks to unique pick Taco van der Hoorn scoring 56 points. He beats marty by just a few points. His other scorers were Edward Planckaert (36) and Martijn Tusveld (28). With this score, he is also the highest mover, climbing 6 spots.
2nd highest scorer marty has Planckaert as well and also scored with rare picks Christopher Lawless (40) and Christopher Latham (36). He also adds a minor 5 points from Ryan Gibbons. Marty performed much better than the rest of the top-10 and is rewarded with a small step (won't call it a jump :) ) from 3rd to 2nd overall.
3rd highest scorer Nicosix had only two riders score points for him, Planckaert and Ben O'Connor, who scored a big 70 points for his great performance in the Tour of Austria. Only two others selected him, and they are 4th and 5th in this update, rote_lanterne and comodoro.
We don't see much movement. As was already said, Tych23 climbs 6 spots, and we also see Nicosix climb 4 spots. rote_lanterne and allobroges are joint 3rd highest mover, moving up 3 spots.
Also in the top-10, there aren't any major changes. CraZyCaLL and marty switch places in the top-3 while I am still 1st. snccdcno pushes both DJW and Hakkie2 down a spot. Interestingly, numbers 5 to 10 scored 0 points in this update! This must be one of the rare occasions that we see the rest of the ranking outperform the top-10 :p

Update 14: search annihilates the competition

For most of us the past two weeks in this game were pretty uneventful, but not for search. With his unique picks Wout van Aert and Dusan Rajovic he scored a whopping 128 points, and with additional points from Justin Jules and Jacopo Mosca, his total score is 170. This is more than double the score of this update's 2nd highest scorer, Armchair Cyclist, who scored with Pavel Sivakov in the Giro delle Valle d'Aosta, Andrea Vendrame and also with Elie Gesbert, one of the few riders in this game that was present at the Tour - and finished as well! For this he scored 20 points and Gesbert also got 5 points for his 7th place on stage 19.
Joint 3rd highest scorers are snccdcno and Kryvo. Kryvo got 25 points from Gesbert and 25 points from Mosca, snccdcno got most of his points from unique pick Ahmet Örken.

This update sees very little movement, only 9 people moved up at all and only 2 more than 1 spot. Search is naturally the highest mover with his big score, he jumps 10 spots. 2nd highest mover is Roubaix, who scored with Sivakov and Rémi Cavagna and moves up 3 spots. Then, we have 7 people moving up 1 spot.

In the overall ranking, no changes :D everything stays as it was 2 weeks ago.

Update 15: Strong performances in Spain and the US for Roubaix

This update is one of the higher scoring ones of the year as Roubaix gets big points from Enric Mas (155) finishing second in Burgos and Neilson Powless (94) who finished fourth in Utah, that was supplemented with points from Aldemar Reyes (34) and Jhonatan Narvaez (22) among others. In second place is CraZyCaLL who had a few of the same riders (Mas, Powless and Reyes) they also had Hernan Aguirre (27) and Richard Carapaz (24), there was only one point between them and the many minor points scorers Roubaix had made the difference as they only had three riders not picking up any points this update.

Rounding out the podium this time is Pantani1 who had the winner of Dwars door het Hageland, Mathieu van der Poel's win netted them 80 points, they also had a few impressive performers in Utah with 9th placed Sepp Kuss (a unique pick) who also finished runner up on stage 2, Taylor Eisenhart who came 11th and the aforementioned Powless.

Pantani1 is the joint highest mover alongside postmanhat with Roubaix in third. A lot of the riders already mentioned are the reason why these three have moved up this time.

CraZyCaLL has taken over at the top of the standings from LaFlorecita who drops to second, rounding out the podium is me after I came 5th this week, only 67 points separate the top three. Hakkie2 who had a very good fortnight is up a couple of places into fourth. Two new entries into the top ten with rote_lanterne and Kryvo, the unlucky two to drop out are JSG and laarsland who has dropped 8 places. Just over 75% of the teams scored triple figures this update.

Update 16: Allez les Bleus

Hi all, sorry for the late update, I lost track of the weeks. Very interesting results in this update, with the highest scorer, Hakkie2, scoring over 300(!) points. This is mainly thanks to two French riders, David Gaudu (100) and Elie Gesbert (118), both scored over 100 points in the last 2 weeks. Hakkie2 also scored with Edward Ravasi (34), Simone Consonni (25) and Mathieu van der Poel (16). With his big score, he moves into 1st position overall!

2nd highest scorer Kazistuta scored with Gaudu, Gesbert and Ravasi and got minor points from around half a dozen riders. He moves up 6 spots into 13th place, which makes him the highest mover in this update.
LosBrolin combined points from Gaudu, Gesbert and Consonni to become 3rd highest scorer.

Interestingly, Pantani1, 4th highest scorer just 1 point away from 3rd, doesn't have either Gaudu or Gesbert. Many of his unique picks scored big points, most notably Taylor Eisenhart (107), Sepp Kuss (68), Krists Neilands (33) and Michal Schlegel (31). Pantani1's team is the most unique team of all, but he's still 11th overall! Definitely really impressive!

Joint 2nd highest scorers LukasCPH, skidmark and Leadbelly all move up 5 spots. LukasCPH scored with Gaudu, Justin Jules (40) and unique pick Kasper Asgreen (38), skidmark with Gaudu, Ravasi and Consonni and Leadbelly with Gaudu and unique picks Travis McCabe (84) and Mihkel Räim (25).

Overall, as I mentioned, Hakkie2 takes over the lead, jumping from 4th place. Kryvo and rote_lanterne both jump 3 spots, fauniera moves up 1 spot.

Update 17: Consonni comes of age

To achieve a high placing in this update, two things were crucial: to have Consonni and to have some rare riders with high scores as well. Around half of the participants selected Simone Consonni, who scored 115 points, thanks to top-10s in the WT GP Ouest-France and HC GP Fourmies. Great results for this talented sprinter :) . Highest scorer Ludwigzgz had of course Consonni, as well as (amongst others) rare picks Amund Jansen (94 points) and Ruben Guerreiro (76 points), and Owain Doull (45 points). With his very high score, Ludwigzgz is also the highest mover, he moves up 10 spots to 12th place overall.

2nd highest scorer LukasCPH scored some 40 points less than Ludwigzgz. His main scorers besides Consonni were Justin Jules (96 points), Doull, Bjorg Lambrecht (42 points) and unique pick Lukas Spengler (32 points). Also in the highest movers classification, LukasCPH is the "bridesmaid".

CraZyCaLL is 3rd highest scorer, and remember, he was 2nd overall in the last update. He scored most of his points with Consonni, Guerreiro, Doull and Riccardo Minali (54 points). Because he was already well placed, this good performance allows CraZyCaLL to move into the lead in the overall ranking! :)

In the highest movers classification, as has already been mentioned, Ludwigzgz and LukasCPH are first and second. 3rd is search, he doesn't have Consonni interestingly, instead he scored with Justin Jules (only sharing him with LukasCPH), Doull and unique pick Wout Van Aert (48 points).

We see quite a lot of movement in the top-10. Of course, we have a new leader, CraZyCaLL, DJW climbs 4 spots to 4th, fauniera, GP Blanco and al_pacino climb as well, while snccdcno and Kryvo drop some positions. Unlucky marty had a bad week and drops to 11th place.

Update 18: Cosnefroy scores big and there's more to come!

Highest scorer in this update is scrooll07 :) His top scorer was Lennard Hofstede, who scored 84 points thanks to his great performance in the Tour of Denmark and who is only on 3 other teams. Another high scorer for him was Owain Doull (82), but because he is the most picked rider his score doesn’t influence the ranking too much. Other riders that contributed to scrooll07’s score were Ivan Garcia Cortina (50) and Amund Jansen (36). He is also the joint highest mover, climbing 5 positions.
I am the 2nd highest scorer, I also have Hofstede, Doull and Garcia Cortina as well as Miles Scotson (37 points). Despite my high score, I don’t move up on the ranking, I remain 3rd but closer to 1st place :)
3rd highest scorer is GP Blanco, he doesn’t have Hofstede but besides Doull he has a large number of riders that scored a decent chunk of points, for example Garcia Cortina, Scotson, Jansen and Carapaz. Like scrooll07, GP Blanco also moves up 5 spots, moving into 4th overall. It is pretty rare to see such a big jump in the top-10 this late in the competition!
We had another person who climbed 5 positions as well, allobroges, he is one of the 5 that selected Benoît Cosnefroy who won GP Isbergues and scored 85 points, and of course, yesterday he won the U23 world title so those 5 people can probably expect another good score in the next update :)

Overall, the top-3 remains the same, but as mentioned GP Blanco moves 5 spots to 4th. Al_pacino climbs 1 position and DJW and snccdcno both drop 3 positions, but the same names stay in the top-10.

Also, in this update Rudy Barbier finally (exactly!) matched his 2016 score, a staggering 385 points, happy days for laarsland and AupaPyama, although I’m sure they expected a bit more.

Update 19: Rather low scores in post-Worlds update

The points scored in this update come almost exclusively from the Worlds two weeks ago and some of the Italian races last week. Top scorer Midge hit the jackpot with rare pick Cosnefroy winning the U23 Worlds Road Race (60 points) and unique pick Bjerg crowning himself U23 World Time Trial champion. Bjerg also scored in the Duo Normand, pushing his total score in the last two weeks to 54 points, and Midge got 18 points from Andrea Vendrame as well.
Only two points behind Midge is allobroges, he too has Cosnefroy and Vendrame, as well as Simone Consonni (30 points) and Vincenzo Albanese (20 points).
Third highest scorer shawnm4747 shares his three main scorers with allobroges (Cosnefroy, Consonni, Albanese) and adds points from Jhonatan Narvaez.

No large leaps in the standings this time, the highest mover is laarsland who climbs 3 spots, with points from rare picks Amund Jansen (46 points), Rudy Barbier (36 points), Tao Geoghegan Hart (15 points) and Aurélien Paret-Peintre (9 points).
Behind him, 4 people share 2nd place in this ranking, allobroges, LukasCPH, Nicosix, Leadbelly, who all move up 2 places.

In the top-10, we don't see much movement, fauniera, DJW and snccdcno climb one spot, rote_lanterne and al_pacino drop one spot each. The top-4 remains the same, with CraZyCaLL still in the lead.

There are a few more points forthcoming - but it's fair to say that staking the whole team on the major investment in Barbier has been less than warranted. Looking forward to making similar stupid decisions for next year :)

Update 20: Italy on top

This update was great for those that selected a lot of Italians, the Italians is by far the nation with most scorers these last two weeks: Minali, Albanese, Consonni, Masnada, Vendrame, Maronese, Ravasi, Ganna.

Fausto Masnada's great performance that allowed him to finish on the podium in the Tour of Turkey had a big impact on this latest update, he scored 132 points and only two people picked him. Naturally, those two are the two highest scorers: Kazistuta and Trudgin. Both also added a large number of points from David Gaudu (59). Kazistuta also scored with Rémi Cavagna (28) and Ricardo Minali (26), amongst others, Trudgin with Benoit Cosnefroy.

With Kazistuta's big score, he also is the highest mover, moving up 6 spots into the top 10, very rare at this point in the game. Trudgin was one of 6 others to move up 2 spots.
Fauniera was the "best of the rest", he scored with Gaudu, Simone Consonni (46 points), Minali and Cavagna.

Overall, the top 3 remains the same, with CraZyCaLL still in the lead. fauniera hops over GP Blanco, al_pacino and Kazistuta gain some places while DJW drops 1. Kryvo had a bad two weeks and dropped 5 spots from 8th to 13th.
With only a few points to come in, CraZyCaLL seems in a good position, but with an advantage of less than 100 points the victory is definitely not certain.

Update 21: We have a winner!

We've already reached the end of the season, the year has gone by so quickly again. The last few weeks of the season weren't very interesting from the perspective of our game, or from any other perspective ;) One performance stood out, Jacopo Mosca's win at the Tour of Hainan which earned him and the 4 people that picked him a massive 200 points. The effect of this on the rankings? You'll find out soon...

The highest scorer was search, who, besides Mosca, also saw his unique pick Salah Eddine Mraouni score quite a few points. Kryvo was the 2nd highest scorer, he also selected Mosca and also scored with Doull and Gibbons. He shares this position in the highest scorers ranking with shawnm4747, who has the combination of Mosca, Doull and Bico.

5 comodoro 85
6 fauniera 81
7 Pantani1 80
8 scrooll07 71
9 LaFlorecita 61
9 DJW 61

Shawnm4747, AupaPyama and search move up a few spots, but the top-10 is out of reach for them. Most importantly, we see Kryvo rocket up the rankings, from outside the top-10 he moves to 5th overall.

Overall, CraZyCaLL and Hakkie2 both had a terrible week, scoring only 5 points, but they were too far ahead to be threatened by anyone. Kryvo's surge is the most notable thing in the final top-10, snccdcno drops out of the top-10 at the last moment, and curiously we have two people with exactly the same score in the top-10, al_pacino and Kazistuta in 9th, quite rare :)

So, CONGRATULATIONS to CraZyCaLL and THANKS to everyone for playing :)
