Frank Høj (37) SaxoBank retires because of his own feelings, he was in any case not offered a new agreement with his current team.
"I reached a certain point. My legs have experienced enough pain, so in the future I will now make a nice bike ride without necessarily getting hurt," said the Dane, who has had no fewer than 10 teams in his career, with names like USPS, Coast, Française des Jeux, CSC, Gerlosteiner, Cofidis.
Despite good skills on pavement, his best results in this field will remain an 8th place in the Tour of Flanders 2004, and a 10th in the same year at Paris-Roubaix. His greatest success is probably his championship of Denmark Road acquired in 1998, already 12 years ago ...
He will leave cycling at the end of the season but does not wish to detail what he will do then, even though he had an idea in mind: "I'll start from scratch with a new career, but that has nothing to do with cycling. So it's a big change, because I was professional cyclist my whole life", he concludes.

:( Jempy Drucker (24) will retire after the Luxembourg championship cyclo-cross in January 2011.
Jempy expresses disappointment in the management of the Luxembourg team being formed around the brothers Andy and Frank Schleck. The 24-year-old Luxemburger of [Team Differdange] had his mind put on a Pro Tour debut next season in the service of his countrymen, but got zero on his petition of the Luxembourg team.
Drucker is angry about the fact that there is no place for him, as Luxembourg's most talented rider. "You'd think a Luxembourg team wants to give a young promising rider a chance, but there was zero interest. This is a huge disappointment for me". Now I'll stay in Luxembourg to do my last race, the championship ...
"That is frightening, but it is the reality of today, I have sacrificed everything to cycling, have no choice: "I need to live, he insists. If I do not go pro, I stop, i've decided ... ". September 28, [www.lequotidien.lu]

The Mallorcan ex-world champion MTB - [Marga Fullana] (38) is very regretful after having failed a doping check, carried out at the last [World Championship MTB in Canada]. The UCI could/will make public the positive in the coming hours Oct 1, something that seems obvious after hearing the official announcement offered by [Marga Fullana].

In all my sporting life I have not resorted to chemicals "illegal." I did not need it, was strong and highly motivated, but this year despite trying and trying, nothing went well and I had the opportunity to get 'Maldita', but an amount so small that I not even noticed anything on performance. bad, very bad. I'm stupid and I have the courage to admit it. I can only say sorry that I have defrauded, I've disappointed myself most. I will take my punishment and move on, I will retire from the sport, and start fighting in another area of my life.

Same is with Marco Velo already announced back in this thread. But thanks for reminding the readers, always welcome JRTinMA. A lot of names will follow the coming week when we know the riders contracts that are submitted to the UCI.

Dominik Roels (23) another German seen as a great talent riding for Milram the last 3 years has to ends his cycling career, left without a new contract for the coming year today October 18, 2010.[RSN]

Pierre Bordry (70) the controversial head of the French anti-doping agency AFLD announced his resignation on Friday September 24, with cycling legend Lance Armstrong, with whom he regularly clashed, greeting the news with a brief “Au revoir Pierre”. “Normally my term finishes in July but I will quit the agency as soon as my successor is named,” said the 70-year-old.

Herman Krott (79) has died October 19, 2010 - "Herman Krott was the founder of the first Amstel Gold Race. Although the founder of the only procycling classic in the Netherlands said farewell as organizer and handed the sceptre to his former pupil Leo van Vliet, the Amstel Gold Race was still a central part of his life. A life in which cycling played an very important role.

His amateur cycling team Amstel Bier was one of the best cycling teams of the world at that time. Herman Krott delivered exactly 60 amateurs to the professional cycling pack in 24 years and they weren’t the least. Fedor den Hartog, Gerrie Knetemann, Gert-Jan Theunisse, Ad Wijnands, Leo van Vliet (the current course director), Harrie Steevens and Joop Zoetemelk are the most famous names. “We had a lot of success with the Amstel-team”, the godfather of the Amstel Gold Race looks back with proper pride.

But Herman Krott also had an other dream: organising a classic. The 79 year old from Amsterdam knew exactly how it all began. He organised, with among other Charles Ruys en Ton Vissers, a few races in the Netherlands. Mainly criteria, but his dream was a Dutch Classic that could compete with the Tour of Flanders and Milan-San Remo. He had already figured it out, Amsterdam – Maastricht would it be. Two city’s with a famous name. Secretly he already had cycled the race several times, nobody knew this at the time. However, it was not achievable. Because of all the bridges and detours, the course became to long. That is why the start was from Breda the first time in 1966.”

A former champion of Belgium Corine Hierkens (28) semi pro-lady from GKV-Team will quit cycling after 9 years of active duty, will start working full-time at the post office from now on, and start a family, announced October 19, 2010 [VW.be]

Profesional Continental team CarmioOro-NGC (3y) last registered as British, but of origine Italian is no more. The Como squad will disappear from the cycling scene due to the econimic down turn. Nine victories [CarmioOro-NGC] brings in this year from the Spaniard Francisco Ventoso who won four times including the classic Paris-Brussels, and others like Sergio Pardilla and rookie Daniel Ratto. We write October 22, 2010 [http://tuttobiciweb.it]
"It 's a shame to drop everything right now. It' s like having sown a field and do not reap the benefits - said the president of the cycling team, Christmas Bellotti .- Sorry to everyone but this is the reality." ." But what has caused this sudden decision? "At a moment when the world is rapidly falling ecomomicaly, also our company NGC has inevitably have to make cuts, and offered the cycling team.

4 lesser known Pro-cycling teams that already have thrown the towel recently, not are registering for a new UCI license of any sort in 2011, and are to the sharks "¿Adiós¡".- [The Bahati Faundation] (1y) - [Adageo Energy] (1y) - [Webcor Builders] (7y) - [Safi-Pasta Zara Manhattan] (14y). We write for them as expiration date October 22, 2010.

Andrés Antuña (23) another very talented Spanish rider that will put an end to his career on October 30 in the Criterium de Oviedo, the young rider will bid farewell to professional cycling. Enrolled for three years in the Burgos 2016 continental team, [Antuña] has achieved his best results this year and only Santi Perez could beat him in the Subida al Naranco.
Announced October 22, 2010 [bici]

Safi, as we're bickering over in the other thread, are being incorporated into GEOX women's team, so they're not actually going anywhere, except in the sense that Colnago-CSF and De Rosa-Stac Plastic are officially entirely different entities from CSF-Navigare and LPR Brakes, even though everybody knows they're more or less the same team under a different registration. They aren't going anywhere.

Sad to see Antuña throw in the towel, he's looked pretty good this year. And Vilajosana too - I like her, and think she's a good rider. The lack of money in the women's scene makes it hard though, and the women's game loses top talents regularly because of this.
