Ok Ganna after the Olympics, going for the classics he could be the new Cancellara. Pretty impressive showing here.

Too be honest, I'm sincerely disappointed in how the peloton handled this. Yes, Ganna is strong and a phenomenon, but they just ... lost faith with 4 - 5 teams still in contention for pursuit. Don't understand it.

He seems to have recovered well from covid. Its going to be really interesting to see him in Roubaix.

it felt like the peloton didn't realize Ganna was off the front or something and so only thought they had to reel back the main breakaway group until it was too late. Otherwise, yeah dunno what they were doing.

And in the end the peloton - having caught the rest of the escape group - finished only 17 seconds behind. So maybe they caught the group, realised Ganna wasn't in it; and went "***!"

Basically the story of long range Evenepoel wins as well.

Big difference between doing it in TTs and in stages like today Vs doing it in races that guys like Van Aert, Van Der Poel and QuickStep are peaking for. Theres a whole different level of power needed to keep those guys off in a long range attack unless they just look at each other.

Perhaps, but Ganna sure has the “look” and apparently the power to perform well over pave’, particularly on a section like the Old Kwaremont, though of course we don’t know (or I should say, I don’t know) how well suited to cobbles he is in terms of technique and mindset.

And I can totally imagine cobbled races where VAM, Van Aert, VDP, and Sagan indeed DO look at each other when a rider like Ganna is up the road, which is how strong rouleurs who might not be the favs end up winning races like Roubaix.

Who is VAM?
