Once Alaphillipe gets more conditioned, he will be winning these. Give him another year or two. In fact next year I'd probably have him up there as a favourite depending on form.
Katusha made him chase but he still won the sprint. A well deserved win for Valverde, love him or hate him, he did very well to win that.
Alaphilippe is a star of the future.
That really exorcised the ghost of last year's race.
Both from an entertainment perspective for us as fans, and from Valverde's perspective after not doing it from a "wait, wait, come 2nd" approach as he has done so many times in the past on the big occasions.
Not a great race by any stretch of the imagination, nothing like as good as 2010 or 2012, but a damn sight better than 2011 or 2014.
