SBS Australia served up a nice teaser to the weekends coming attraction - a doco titled "Hell of the North". It's an in-depth look at Stuey's win from '07 featuring Cancellara, Hincapie, Riis, Hushovd and also some background on the event from Leblanc, Devlaeminck, Duclos-Lasalle and others. Well worth a look if you can get hold of a copy.

Not to be confused with Road to Roubaix filmed same year which sucked balls IMHO

Interesting title considering the 76 Hell of the North Doc.....Merckx , labor conflict protest.... why did they borrow from the classic? not a good idea however good the film is... I am sure the new film is great and all but howcan it compete with a film with Eddy Merckx adjusting his saddle on film before the start .......

The Mayo Situation

I never thought my first post on this forum would be about mayonnaise, but here we go:

I have always thought that the main reason people are disgusted with mayonnaise on fries is that they never tried any really good one. The cheap stuff in 'frietkoten' in Belgium is better than some I have eaten in restaurants around the world. Even across the border in Holland they have some substitute called 'frietsaus' which my 3-year old instinctively refused to eat (sorry Dutchies - we love your mussels though!).

I wouldn't like eating the cheap yellow goop that is mayonnaise in name only on my fries, either.

I love mayonnaise so much, for me fries are just little edible spoons for scooping up huge blobs of the stuff... :D

What I don't like about mayonnaise is that it makes the fries go soft and squishy. Fries should be crunchy imo.

True - crunchy on the outside, soft inside, with the mayonnaise served on the side of the fries, not drowning them :)

I prefer a real mess: "een groot met stoofvleessaus, ne mexicano en ne curryworst spécial met curryketchup".

Try google translating that!

P.s.: Barrus is handing out bans for fries and mayo, so watch yourself. >_>

What the hell did I do

I think the only real way to enjoy fries is with mayo, and the real stuff, not the low fat fries-sauce.

Also what mayo are you guys using that make the fries go soft?
I mean this:

Anyway, too bad i won't be able to see the race live, but I surely will record it. The heat and the dryness will hopefully make for an interesting spectacle

Hate mayo and hate tomato sauce. Why not just taste the chips by themselves? They taste good!:p

Anyway, I am not sure who I should tip for Roubaix.

I think quite a few riders really can win on Sunday!

OK, this is perfect.
This is the definition of cycling.

I prefer this one:

001bt.jpg

The good old days when there were no barriers between riders and spectators. Racers were in communion with the audience. Now in the name of security, they've stopped that.

Don't be mislead by the writings below, there's a mistake in my book. It's not from 2000 at all. Way older.

On a related note: 2010 alcohol prohibition on the Carrefour de l'Arbre is a real shame too.

Compare the fervour:

If Cancellara wins I'm going to give him his weight in mayonnaise and Belgian(!) fries. :p

I remember when I went to the States once and asked fries with mayo and they all looked at me as if I was yelling Allah akhbar or something.

Mayo, curryketchup, onions for me :D

Depends, if the chips are not soggy you can get away with mayo. Soggy chips are great but you need vinegar and plenty of salt.

Anyway looks like Michael Barry is in for Hagen, Flecha might enjoy the warm conditions who knows.
I'm going for Boom for the win. I dont want to be too obvious!

Living in Europe, I tried mayo on fries. If you like it, go for it. I'll stick with my very American Ketchup or Ranch Salad Dressing.

Hmm... Is it too early for fries??

This guy is a Brit, he doesn't call them fries. Ever heard of fish and chips?

Fries in Britain are ultra thin things you get in McDonalds and so I try to avoid them. Chips from a fish and chip shop are great because they are fatter and taste better. :)
