I see Garmin is going to take flak no matter what they do.

Found this on page 14, Quote of the day, I can already imagine the responses from people here.

Congrats to Johan, what a race and now to read the other 40 odd threads in here.

I lost a lot of respect for Canc in Flanders and PR. Today complaining and having a go at the Garmin car was lucency. What does he expect? Guys from other teams to ride for him to win? He doesn't have a team. He's paying the price for that. He can't expect everyone to work with him. Fabian is becoming a one horse trick. He has one type of attack and thats it. Everyone knows what he's going to do. He needs a new game. At least with Riis he had some brains but today was just stupidity.

Bruyneel or Riis would never let one of their riders ride like Canc did today. No repect for the race or his fellow riders.

Oh man you are hilarious. No respect for the race? Then who animated Flanders and Roubaix? Who put in countless attacks and who fought for second place?

No respect for the fellow riders?

"I understand the tactics of Ballan and Hushovd, and I respect them”

"The winner here today is beautiful. He wasn’t someone expected. He maybe woke up this morning thinking I’m going to ride for my team. I’m going to help, and he won the race. I’m very happy for him.”

I guess this is what happens when you have a big, big favourite who doesn't have a proper team. Complete and utter chaos.

But also, because of how dominant he was before, nobody willing to share the work with him because they know he'll leave them behind unless they tire him out first. As he's inevitably going to get frustrated by this, it makes daring to dream just that bit more worthwhile for the rank outsiders because there is always going to be disorganisation in the chase.

on an unrelated note, the other shock piece of trivia from the day:

More Team NetApp riders finished than Quick Step ones.

Great race and a well deserved winner. Nothing wrong with Garmin's tactics, they played it to perfection.

F-ing awesome ride by Summie, it was so beautiful :D

Hushovd got was coming for him, didn't want to work because of Summie-as if that was the reason , and he paid the price. No win at his obsession. Respect for the Canc for not riding into his own destruction

By the way, now that the dust has settled, any words from Boom and Flecha about the reasons for their little spat?

It's not what he's saying it's how he's riding. Seriously if he really wanted to win he'd sit and wait. Chase nothing like he did 80% of the day. He could have waited to the last cobbled section after Thor and co. had burnt out themselves and their team-mates and couldn't follow him. He has an amazing attack. Everyone knows it coming but it's become so predictable now. No use attacking and then complaining because Thor won't come to the front. Thor playing to his strength and that's his sprint. He cant ride it from 40km out. Fabian is the strongest by far but but not the smartest.

He's starting to look stupid now. No Boonen, no Pozzato and no Chav - he still couldn't win. Left his brain at the start line. Sorry. Calling as it is. We all hate Lance but no way he'd ever try tactics as stupid as Fabian does. He'd attack once within striking distance and win. That's the difference.

He didn't complain. He just sat up and told them he wasn't dragging them any further. Hushovd was the one who got angry about it.

Why the hell would Hushovd and Ballan burn themselves chasing their own teammates and letting Cancellara do nothing? If Cancellara decided not to pull, it's not hard to imagine what would happen, because it's what actually happened.

I guess Boom was annoyed at Flecha, because he and Hayman were just sitting there not doing anything despite not having anyone in front. Ultimately I think they were just spent though, Flecha didn't quite have it today.

Amazing how Thor managed to go through this spring without any results at all despite being stronger than ever. His season could still be ok but it won't be very good.

It's quite possible that Cancellara is not one of the more intelligent pro riders (both IRL and race-wise), I don't know much about him personally, so I don't know, but it's possible. But I actually think that hurt his chances. Any one of them might have taken at least some turns in the wind chasing the break-away (they can't all have a teammate at the front) but the way the race turned out nobody was even nearly as intersted at chasing them down as he was which weakened his hand in the poker game.

From what i remember, Tjallingii was still up ahead and Sky weren't really riding (which was within reason, given that Flecha was under pressure very soon after Cancellara's first attack) so to me almost coming to blows made little sense.

It seems that Thor still has work to do on the cobbled climbs.

The replay I saw showed Flecha not really paying attention and riding into the side of Boom which is why he got annoyed.

No, he definitely did complain; he even argued with the Garmin team car while gesticulating wildly at whoever was driving the car.

Semi-random observation - motorcycles have been rather too close to the action today. Not just on the Carrefour de l'Arbre.

Boom said he was annoyed by Flecha all day since he didn't seem to care about all the crashes. Flecha was taking positions with force and Boom was on Cancellaras wheel when Flecha decided he wanted that wheel. Boom didn't agree :)

Why let a better cyclist than Hushovd burn him self chasing his own team mates?

Garmin did nothing wrong, but Hushovd is just a total wheelsucker. Team mates in the front group might be his official excuse, but we all know that's bull****. He always rides like this.

Hmm... from a Danish viewpoint it could have been cool if Bak had won/ ended up on the podium. But I gotta say; that ride from van Summeren, neat!

Besides; fifth ain't bad.

IMO that was just him telling the Garmin car that he wasn't pulling anymore. Gesticulating that he wasn't going to kill himself just to drag them up to their teammates.

I thought he was saying "I won Roubaix twice, what about you?"
