Likely because for an English speaking person, that's as close to the correct pronounciation as you'll get? In Dutch you don't have to say every ending N. So, you don't have to say BooneN. The "oo" in his name are supposed to be pronounced like "oh", or like in "bone" or "tone" or "moan". Not like in "good" or "boon" or "goon".
