Even though Kittel was the fastest, still impressive of Jakobsen. He is beating quite some strong sprinters.

That was new; riders have same time, so they're just given the same position on the (provisional) GC.
Wonder how that'll play out in the ITT tomorrow…

I'm not even surprised. I kinda was sure he'd win a stage. He didn't doesn't need to be as fast as Kittel with QS lead out but is already pretty fast on his own. Nice Jakobsen

QS doesn't even need Viviani or Gaviria to win sprint stages anymore.
They can win with any of their sprinters. So great are their lead-out-trains at the moment...
Richeze, Morkov and Sabatini not even here

So... their lead-out trains are so great that even without their main sprinters or their main lead-out men they're still winning?

How good is Jakobsen's ITT? Does he have any chance of contending for the overall given the lack of climbs in this year's edition?

Now thats what I call dominance! Their third rate sprinter with their third rate leadout wins easily. :D

Both. I guess you can say that even without their main sprinters and their main lead-out guys, they are still winning.

Wouldn't call Jakobsen third rate btw. He's really fast already. According to Steels faster than Hodeg. Ofc only Viviani and Gaviria are faster within the team

Number 13 won without putting one of the numbers upside down.
Yesterday Trentin also won wearing nr. 13 and in similar weather conditions.

If the rankings of QS sprinters are:

Gaviria
Viviani
Jakobsen
Hodeg

Does that - by definition - not make Jakobsen third rate?

Not the best choice of words, but like @barmaher said, he is (at best) the 3rd guy for quickstep. And so is Senechal. He is even lower on the pecking order with Richeze, Sabatini and Morkov.

I know what you mean, Dekker; I was just being facetious. He is clearly a very good sprinter, on the fringes of top class.

It would be very interesting to see how people rank the Top 5 sprinters at present. I don't want to pollute this thread, so I will set up another one.

Well Kittel, Ewan etc are clearly faster but lead out is so important nowadays. Seems like pure speed matters less.

Groenewegen in the TDF was also clearly faster than Gaviria and Sagan but often simply no chance because of lead out

This - Had Ewan or Kittel had a rider in the last 500 metres and you get a different result.

Ewan isn't a supreme sprinter at all IMHO. In fact Lotto better should've signed Jakobsen this year already and kept Greipel as his mentor instead of making all this trouble by signing Ewan!

Any news on that Katusha rider ?

Nope, doesn't even appear as a DNF on any of the result lists I've been able to find; he's simply disappeared.

if a crash happens inside the final 3km, the rider doesn't need to finish the stage to get classified. So same as everyone else involved, he got a +0:00

Kuznetsov was brought to the hospital for further examinations

Easier said than done. QS can almost guarantee a sprinter victories. So if they want you, you take it. It won't be easy to surpass Gaviria and Viviani on the depth chart, but let's be honest, a neo pro wouldn't get to race the biggest races anyway. So Jakobsen got the best he could: An insane leadout for the same races he would've done with almost every other team. And he can learn from some of the best riders in general during training camps as a bonus.
