I asked myself a few years back when Niño won La Vuelta a Colombia why he never raced in the Pro-Tour in Europe. He's been around for a while. Maybe is Clininc stuff. He has been critical of guys like Buenahora and Casteblanco in the past.

Maybe somebody knows.

Aaaarggh, Androni, Androni everywhere.

No surprise. I don't know what it is, (probably as simple as the races they target) but Savio's team always seems to be on fire in the first part of the year. I double checked and in the last 5 years they've got 64 wins in January, February, and March (not including their 4 from 2011) and that's more than half their total wins for that period.

I can help you with that:

1- Europeans don't peak until later in the year.;)
2- Depends on the contenders, but again related to number 1.

Sometimes I get tired of seeing my Colombian riders beat everyone at the beginning of the year, and even when they get close to the Giro, but when the Giro comes, a big bunch of riders start to climb better than them. Go figure. Time after time I get excited about it and then I get deflated when the big races come.

What makes you think Van Hummel was doing anything but saving energy and getting to the top?

It's as Cav says in his book - in his first Tour he was in the last group becuase he was the worst climber, in his 2nd Tour, it was because he could be in the 2nd to last group, but if you can be in the last group and get inside the time limit, you save more energy

If Guardini keeps this up ....

Guardini had this to say after stage 3 yesterday: "We have a bet, if we can get to five victories, [team director] Stefano Giuliano will stop smoking. Since there aren't other difficult stages, we are putting our attention into arriving at this goal"

one to go !
