Confirmed. Nissan and Trek put up some more $$$. Love to see that contract. The out clauses must be 10 pages long

Do you mean Radio Shack as in the team structure, or is the sponsor Radio Shack actually sticking around, and they're getting extra funds from Nissan and Trek? Will Radio Shack the sponsor contribute less money from now on?

At least this confims that there is NO WAY that HTC can be folding for lack of sponsors...

I'll believe it when I see it. And when I see it, I probably still won't believe it.

The one good thing about it, if it happens, is that, overall, sponsors renewing is good for the sport. No matter which team it is.

what?but people on the internet said to me radioshack was doomed after lance retired.so wtf???

You should have come to this forum then as the consensus here was that he retired to distance himself from the team so they could continue.

Less than a month ago, the situation looked bleak, with the prospect of a number of teams going under.
Now things are starting look quite a bit brighter.
Good news, even if it comes with the unwanted baggage.

Puts Bob "Grand Tour" under severe pressure!

Same every year. Every year people act like cycling stops after that year. And every year we have problems with dividing ProTour places between teams...

Must also limit the chances of GREENedge getting a pro licence...?

It's all right. They speak English.

McQuaid will just kick out Ag2r. In two years another couple of big moneybags teams in English-speaking countries will have started up and he can lock down a 22-team WorldTour ("because none of these teams deserves to miss out") with the race organisers over a barrel. Then he can finally achieve his dream of a Tour de France without a single Frenchman to spoil the corporate party (he may also have to kick out Euskaltel, due to the possibility of French Basques riding).

I am a fan of many of the young RS riders, but really?

You would think the boards of these companies would put the fist down. The risk involved is massive, and the upside potential is minimal.

For a bike company in today's environment, who you sponsor in terms of ethics is more important than results, at least for the short term. Nissan is fighting for an audience with a great deal of choice, and if the company's image is bad after investing in a dirty cycling team.... then the marketing efforts are more than void.

Do you think the contract hinges on the outcome of the Fed's case? Is there an out? What happens to the potentially implicated management? They will definitely need a break-away league.

Damn. I was hoping the World Tour ranks might be thinned out a bit, so GT organisers would have more flexibility over wildcards.

I actually find the team a lot more tolerable without Lance on it.

Agreed. I admire Kloeden's and Horner's results. Sure, they're a little suspect, but if you're going to wig out about them then you're going to have a hard time following just about any star rider. And at least they don't make obnoxious, combative press comments all the time.

Leipheimer is fairly uninspiring in his wheelsucking, he has a (very old) doping sanction on the books, but it's still impressive to see the palmares he has for a rider with his characteristics. I just wish he hadn't pipped Cunego in Switzerland.

Bruyneel is super-suspect, but at least he and Demol are excellent at spotting young talent and bringing new riders into the fold. They also run a much more diverse team than most, meaning that talent gets opportunities rather than nationalism.

I'll never be rooting for this outfit, but I certainly don't mind seeing them stick around in the post-Lance era.
