I think it was the wind and the equipment choices really for Levi. He looks like he's really coming on right now. I'm curious if he can hold it beyond ToC.

Dave Zabriskie got beat by the same guy. Not sure how big a deal it is.

It's his breathing, its always been like this. To see how lean he is check his legs, like all season, carrying a little too much to be a tour weight has time to lose it, though it does bring into question how hard he's been working. I'd still say his power has been down all year for a tour contender ...Still thinking if he rides for the win position 3-5.

I agree that most athletes understand to 'work' their breathing with their abdominal musculature rather than intercostals and thoracic muscles.

What I find most hypocritical is the lack of class at some Lance-blinded fans who slagged the likes of Ullrich in April and May when he looked the same as Lance today. Lets face it. Lance is overweight for what he is attempting to accomplish and at this rate will be 'pack fill' as he has historically stated.

Can't wait for July.

LL will hold it together just fine until there is a tough tdf mountain stage at which point he will crack like that giant egg on top of his neck.

That's funny! I have to agree. Thus making him a crack head.

Please don't mistake me for a Lance fanboy but in the Tour of the Basque at one point you could see Valverde with a gut and the announcers said it was his breathing.

HgH and cortico-steroids are the only "supplements" (LOL!!!) that cause bloating as severe as what Armstrong is exhibiting.

I know you're being snarky but it’s true. There are plenty of legal supplements that will make you gain weight and bloat (creatine is an easy one) and gain strength that you can stop taking a week to 10 days before competition. Lose weight/bloat but keep the strength.

All this doesn't change the fact he lost 1:35 to Levi Leipheimer... He's probably in the same form as last year this time around, but with no Giro and only some mediocre mountain stages in the ToC he'll be smashed at the tour...

With some of the tweets from RS and Trek - lIvestrong riders it seems that this race is to make armstrong and his crew feel good about how his team has good riderscoming through and so it comforts his ego.

I think that's the point that is really being glossed over here. He's run out of races to use as training. Last year he had the Giro to get race miles in his legs. Now it's a week at the ToC and the Tour de Suisse. It will be a tight fit between the ToC and the TdS to recon all of the relevant stages, but I guess it can be done.

It's only May so....

ACF..the Trek U23 boys are hitting it...I don't think it has anything to do with his ego...they are really riding well, and are excited about their progress.

Full results finally up. Interesting that the brief results that were up had LA in 5th, but he finished 13th. I'm sorry, it may be May but there's just no way Lance finishing 13th in a TT against a domestic field can't be worrysome to the RS crew.

At least we now know why Taylor Phinney is considered to be America's next Tour winner.

Yes. The TT course is always exactly the same for Gila.
Only difference is the wind.

FWIW, LA didn't look anywhere as, well, large as the photos on here appear. I was there watching the pros in the morning. Lance looked in pretty good shape, actually. Leaner than last year at Gila.

Come on Dude, play nice with the clowns - not what they want to hear. Keep it entertaining so fantasy land has some value. The party line around here is more entertaining and you go and ruin it with an eye witness account. Keep this up and I'll have to go back to reading the Onion where they actually know what they're talking about.

He just won the crit so of course he'll win the Tour some day.

Phinney
Dominguez
Dionne

Don't count out Ben King in the next few years King Phinney should be a good friendly but competitive rivalry.
