Thanks for vid publicus, Contador was awesome.

Yup. And Machado looked really wasted after the finish. He must have way into his red zone the last minute or more. On a longer climb Contador would have grabbed large amounts of time.

Nice! Machado didn't look that bad though, most people would have gone in that direction if Contador jumped just as they got to his wheel. I am more concerned about why Machado didn't have a "teammate" to help him bridge up in the first place. It is almost like the whole Shack team were just riding for themselves.
As a side note, does anyone else think Machado resembles Mancebo more than a little?

I was thinking the same thing! He has a labouring style on the bike which looks like he's in excrutiating pain. I agree that if Radioshack rode more as a team and rode for each other they might have had Leipheimer up there a bit closer. Surprised by omega Pharma lotto having a few guys up there. good ride by them!

@LL
Uphill finish today in Algarve, @teamradioshack 2nd & 3rd (Tiago and myself). The Pistolero fired right from the bottom.

Peraud was the guy who beat Chavanel in the french tt championship last year as a cross country MTBer. Early days but it will be interesting to see how he goes this year.

Machado: "Some 'more powerful riders' took me out of the wheels of my teammates, so I had to waste a lot of energy getting back up. I don't want to call them fat, so let's just say they're 'more powerful' than me"

Looks like Radio Shack has come out to play today! Apparently they have attacked at the 53rd kilometer and split the peloton. It's going to be a very interesting day indeed.

Gut check time Astana!

Radio Shack's Rosseler led the way across the Cat 3 climb, but he started the day 15:31 back.

I suspect Radio Shack is going for a stage win and testing some possible tactics. Will AC get nervous and overreact burning up his team in the process. Or will he sit back and let it play out? Methinks Columbia will be interested in chasing to get another victory for Greipel. But this was an interesting move by Radio Shack.

Six guys out front (74.2KM raced): Erviti (CdE: 5:11), Martinez (EE: 7:15), Delage (Omega-Lotto: 8:05), S. Rosseler (RS: 15:31), Van Hecke (Topsport: 16:05) and Keisse (29:37)

Astana leading peloton 3:30 behind the breakaway.

This live ticker is worse than usual. Very little in the way of updates. Last update was about 15 minutes ago--breakaway has a 5:10 advantage with 44KM remaining. Erviti is almost the virtual leader on the road--don't think that will stick, but it is something to note in an otherwise gawdawful stage (from a live ticker stand point.

Oh yeah; beautiful tactic by Contador and DLF-- just as Machado thinks he can latch onto a wheel and recover a bit after his catching burst *bingo* empty air and he has it all to do over again! *Gasp*

"I could not always be at the wheel of my colleagues. There are other runners, with experience, who were always taking me the best position. It was an affliction in the last kilometers. Too bad, because maybe we could have won. Anyway, I lost for the second best in the world, because the best is the Armstrong "-- Tiago Machado

   For crying out loud!

Machado rode well, but this is just a bit cranky.

Good win for Radio Shack. Their first win of the year.

Too bad the live coverage was non-existent. It would have been nice to see him solo away from the break away group.
