Believe me, I'd love for him to win but I seriously doubt it. He said in a Luxembourgish newspaper that he'd prefer "a more laid back start" than this hard stage. Also he "has no intentions of winning" the Ruta.

Furthermore, he seems to have quite a lot of respect for the climb, as he says on his twitter:

"Autch. I saw the finishing climb from 2morrow. That's gonna hurt "

Plus he even posten a photo of the climb:

That climb is brutal.

OH NOES!

I hope they're not too beat up, especially Cunego, since he's always such a great animater in races like the Ardennes classics. I'd also like to see Gerdemann take a sporting run at some of the smaller spring stage races. Any updates?

lol! :D

Some more news on Fränk - looks like his chain broke with 2kms to go yesterday, when he was in the front group and feeling good, had to wait for the team car who was a bit of a ways away - still good stage for him though

Let's not get carried away;)

The chain just chipped a tooth on the chainring and therefore he couldn't quite follow the acceleration.... Uphill that'll quickly make you lose quite a bit of time:p

As well as the crash caused by the barriers blowing out onto the road, the organisers had removed barriers marking traffic islands inside the last kilometre, one of which Greg Henderson hit, blowing his chances of winning...

&quot said:
"I was 5th wheel on Friere. Boom - islands. Hands off handlebars. Chain off the inside. Back to about 20th. I sprinted with Gerro [Simon Gerrans] up to maybe 11th-12th. Then tried to go again," a clearly disappointed Henderson told RoadCycling.co.nz.

"You can't sprint 3 times in 1km. Missed opportunity."
