i am so ****ed off...seeing cav win makes me want to cry.

Not half as bad as watching that squeaky voiced **** chin gurn his way to victory clambering all over his bike like the stupid mtb'er that he is. A few days ago you were gloating that the convicts were superior to GB in every way, how is that working out for you now then? GB top the medal table as well:rolleyes:

Payback is a ***** ain't it, now stop whining and suck it up.

GB did a brilliant job controlling the race today, I don't think I've ever been so happy that Cav won! ;)

I still can't believe how brilliant they were. The Belgians, Italians, French, Dutch and Spanish - the traditional powerhouses of mens cycling - all put men into breaks, repeatedly, and a handful of Brits, with a bit of help from 1 German and 1 American, took everything those countries could throw at us. In the end, on the last lap, they couldn't attack, because one Brit, single handedly, kept the pace so high, it was nigh on impossible to do so.

Let's be clear. This wasn't HTC controlling a stage in the Tour where 4 or 5 Frenchmen are intent on getting a bit of sponsor time, whilst the GC teams take a breather and the other sprinters team just wait for the last 5km. Every team was trying to find a way to win this one, and most of them didn't want it to end in a bunch sprint. It was a phenomenal effort.

I notice Mark Cavendish won today.

I'm really looking forward to seeing him wearing the World Champion's jersey next year as I imagine, we all are.

Yes GB did great, but sure as hell if it were a course like Geelong's or Mendrisio's they wouldve no way been able to controll it so easily. The course didnt even provide a challenge hard enough to break domestiques, not even after 260 kilometers of hard racing lol.

Tour de France rates a million times higher then the Worlds though. Especially a flat one. This was a kermis koers and I really mean that.

And if Everest was 15 times higher nobody would be able to climb it as easily.

You can only race the course and competitors that are there.

Agreeing with Pistrollero and ACF in one weekend, what is going on here?

I really enjoyed the race today. And, although Cav isn't my favourite guy, he did a good job on a finish that wasn't ideally suited to him and where his train broke down.

Maybe this will help the UK get the Worlds in a few years. If so, Edinburgh is the place to have it - would be a great course.

This is the whole point of people read what's being written. This was a plan to win on this course, not Geelong or Mendriso or Varese, - Copenhagen a flatty perfect for the best sprinter on the planet and a brilliant team that could get him to the last 500m to do HIS job.

He won because they executed a brilliant plan for this parcours superbly.

Well, it certainly isn't going to be a repeat for Cav next year...

I think Cavendish is a worthy world champion, he is the best road sprinter of the world. Look how many he's winning, that's extraordinary. Of course, it might be better to watch a worlds on some hard course, but the way the British team handled the race today was amazing. No one of those 200 other riders could really break the train or deny the Brits their win. And that's amazing, too. Maybe it isn't pure entertainment, but it's a great performance.

And why shouldn't sprinters be able to win world titles?

This is correct and a good post in my opinion.
Enough whinging...rarely a sprinter gets a chance to be world champ.
Like him or not Cav deserving of his win.

i really can't believe those of you on here who don't appreciate what you just saw. great britain was absolutely dominant today. they set a blistering pace in the end that eliminated any chance of an escape. this was absolutely a championship effort by the team.

and anyone who does not think that cav "deserves" to be a champion for what he showed he could do today really really needs to get out on a bike and learn how to ride. to do what he did at those speeds in the final 700m requires speed, bike-handling ability, experience, and a "nose for the goal", that i can't even comprehend. it was truly a piece of bicycle wizardry!

this should be making a cav fan out of everyone here.

Personally, I dont view Cavendish as a worthy Worlds Champion, maybe World Champion sprinter but thats it and that would apply to any sprinter who won today. Cavendish done nothing the entire race except sprint at the end, your average Worlds winner usually has to do a little bit more and should have to do a little more than that. I viewed Cipos win in exactly the same way. Not their fault but I feels the Worlds should always be a proper test, not a glorified parade with a sprint finish.

Can we expect to see Cav up there in the proper races like Flanders, P-R, L-B-L etc, no. Why not, because he aint good enough and yet he is somehow World Champion.

Personally, I have no problem with sprinters winning. All I want is the World Championships to be entertaining, unpredictable and hard has hell. Thor won last year and it was an excellent race. But a race like today just devalues the rainbow jersey. If you can't win unless it's a 100 man bunch sprint then you should maybe try your luck on the track. I just don't think Cav is a deserving World Road Racing Champion at this point in his career.

As odd as it seems, this is a one time shot at a title. Different than 'best all-around rider'. Maybe it should be called something else...
Just like 'state champion' means you one that race....not best rider in the state.
It does seem odd....

That's actually pretty amazing. considering the crappy course and DK with zero chance of a medal.

You talk in lack of better knowledge..!

Until today ( excl.mens elite) (not familiar with the status after today) Denmark was number 4 on the medal-ranks (country-wise) and thats from a country of 5.5 mio citizens. (thats okay, and if you expect more, then ones nose are way to high in the sky)

1 gold / 1 silver / 1 bronze.

and then we dont count Linda Villumsen (1 silver ladys elite) who decided to ride and move to new zealand 2010/2011 after she took bronze for Denmark 2009..

and no one of these acchived medals was obvius.!!

So yeah´ you talk in lack of better knowledge..(no insult, just plain and simple)
