If Cav wins, will he find a chance/feel obligated/not care at all to ride as world champion while still at HTC-Highroad.

Pretty sure it's going to be Cav. Or EBH

Would rather feel that there were more in contention for it though.

ebh is completely out of shape and doesn't have the speed either.

I'm looking forward to this one. The finish suits a strong sprinter like Thor or Sagan or maybe even Gilbert, but the more "pure" sprinters sure will be motivated to try their hands at it too. With strong teamwork, Cav or Farrar could prevail, but I'm going to pick Thor for the title defense. Why? He's got all the experience in the world and the finish suits him perfectly. If we had this same course in two years I'd definitely pick Sagan but I don't think he can contend with more experienced strong men like Hushovd and Freire after this distance.

And to all of y'all who keep complaining about the course, every type of rider deserves a worlds course that suits their abilites once in a while. We don't usually see a world's course that is this flat. It's not a bad thing that we get to see the big name sprinters fighting it out for the rainbow jersey once in a while.

Gilbert tries in the last few km but is caught in the last km and finishes about 5th, Freire wins, couple of tough sprinters fill the next places (no Cav).

How about we save it for after the race, if he wins, Jinxy Mcjinx.

Anyone know when the TV coverage of the actual race proper is likely to begin (Eurosport seem to have pretty much their whole morning and afternoon dedicated to it)?

I'm sure hearing a lot of buzz about Greipel. Is he in known form right now?
Cancellara could surprise the heck out of everyone if his tactics go just right.

My top 5 guesses

Gilbert
Fabu
Sagan
Freire
Thor

could go any way..

Hossein Askari wins à la Durand after spending 250 km on the attack with Teklehaimanot, Artur Garcia and Said el Ammoury, who finish 2nd, 3th and 4th respectively. Bennati wins the sprint for 5th ahead of Rojas.

266 km of flat, two bumps on the road from 20 to 40 meters and from 30 to cima coppi's 50 meters.a disgrace.only hope is if they will ride at 50 km/h a long time, then the sprinters in no form will get dropped on the bumps.

Any idea of his form? Surely he could be a potential winner if he is in top shape!?

it's hard to guess... he made the Vuelta to the end but was hardly visible there... the more I look at the Australia line-up, the more I conclude Chris Sutton is their best bet for now...
