Regardless of how strong Cadel feels, he needs to ride with the Schlecks until 2km to go as long as they keep Contador at 1-2 minutes. At that point, if he's strong he can try to drop them, but as long as they pull at a good rate he'd be foolish to attack until the very end.

If he's not strong... he can just ride their train to the finish.
