Do you think Gilbert sacrificed himself on purpose to wear out the sprint teams?

I think Vanendert set the pace to drop Cavendish. When Gilbert went he tried to stay away, but when he heard Greipel was up front and feeling good he may well have pushed on after he knew he had no chance to give him every chance to win. Which worked out quite well.

great win by greipel.

he proved he can beat cav. but i want to see him beating cav and his train on a 100% flat stage. i honestly think he can do it

He'll get his chance tomorrow I guess.

This was brilliant tactics by Omega Pharma Lotto. They played their two big cards today : Greipel and Gilbert and they actually worked together. Sending Gilber out with 15 kms to go freaked out HTC, sent them working hard to bring back a very good break. Tony Martin burned his energy chasing them down. Unsurprisingly, HTC lead out was absent come the final 2kms - not even Goss was there who can normally get over the hills as a sprinter let alone a backup lead out.

Cavendish didn't lose this because he is less adept at getting over the hills. He lost this because OPLs tactics were brilliant.

Fantastic stage. Great to see those final attacks and also the much vaunted Cavendish / Greipel showdown actually live up to the billing

If Cavendish is up there in the end it could be a pointless question, but I think Greipel is the better bet.

Nice call spalco.

Wish I had video... sounds like a great finish. That has to feel goooood for Andre.

Greipel far less aero than Cav. I'd like to see their comparative wattage outputs for that sprint. In any event, I think we just saw some vindication, even redemption.

What a stage finale ! Great win by Greipel. I would have loved to see Oss win but he was in first position too early and was never going to happen.
I bet Cav is ****ed off!

Surprising sprint, Cavendish there while Goss and Renshaw weren't, but the hills took too much out of him. Great attack by Gilbert though, good thing his teammate got it :)

Round 2 tomorrow will be delicious. With fewer hills I think Cav will have the edge but we'll see.

That wish may be a stage too far.

Meh, what's the big deal? Greipel picks up another unimportant race win. :p

Many congrats Apeman!!
