I just want to say that I am a Johnny Hoogerland fan.

I love any guy who bridges up to a break and rides past them when he gets there. Can't speak to his sanity but he's definitely entertaining.

From Allan Peiper at stage start to Australian Broadcaster.

I'm just wondering what Goss's role is this year.. kind of not doing much at the moment but maybe later in the Tour!?.

I think the thinking from HTC is that he is strong enough to act as a helper for Cav, and in the leadout train, but is always a second option should anything happen to Cav or on the flat stages...If you have the option, why not.

Well, the Red Cross symbol was based on the Swiss flag, so it's not a huge coincidence. ;)

This is what Wikipedia says about it: "The Red Cross flag is often confused with the Flag of Switzerland which is the opposite of it. In 1906, to put an end to the argument of Turkey that the flag took its roots from Christianity, it was decided to promote officially the idea that the Red Cross flag had been formed by reversing the federal colours of Switzerland, although no clear evidence of this origin had ever been found."

But the flag of Switzerland "took its roots from Christianity" so that puts paid to that. :D

The flag of Switzerland is unpacking its suitcase of courage now, and that puts paid to the chances of Wikipedia to win the stage. And what's this? Turkey has managed to hang onto the flag's wheel, taking support from its crescent of Islam festooned medical vehicles.

is the group splitted? who is in the second part?
Looks like it is still together. Some small groups have been dropped, Richie Porte and Chavanel are the only names I have heard so far.

Yep. But he isn't as good a leadout as Renshaw. He admits himself he loses the sprinter too much-ducking and diving, used to riding for himself.

I think with Cav already in the team though, it makes sense to also pick Goss. His leadout role isn't as clearly defined as someone like Renshaw. He is used as a strong man on the flats where appropriate, and is a second option when Cav isn't feeling great, or on hilly stages.

If Cav goes to Sky next year I'd love to see Renshaw leading out Goss for GreenEDGE. That'd be a combination capable of beating Cav at times, and good practice for London?!
