It'll be interesting to see how he goes. He did well yesterday but his main problem has been consistency. He can perform well on one or 2 mountain stages but then bombs and loses loads of time (See the ToC as an example of that). That said, at the start of the year he said he was targetting this race.

If Froome can hang in there and get a top 10 at the end of the race (which will be some effort) then he could be in line for a suprise pick to the Sky TDF squad. There's a couple of places up for grabs with injury/illness to Cummings and Rogers an dhe could get one. He can do an OK TT (so should be good for the TTT) and can support Wiggins and Uran in some of the mountain stages.

To be fair to him he wasn't meant to be riding California. He's had a really good year on the mountains, but I think the timing of his season makes the Tour unlikely. Probably deserves it though.

Would be good to see Matthias do well. Mollema too. I also would like to see Tejay Van Garderen do something special for himself at his age (my hometown boy).

I fear for our man Matthias on the descent. He ain't crash hot on descents.

It's live on Eurosport at 3pm. Showing 1.5 hours.

From what I can tell, they're showing Le Mans 14.45-15.45, tennis from 15.45-17.00 and a rerun of Dauphiné from 17.00-18.15.

I think we can safely say that Soler won't be winning this one

soler is a weird guy, if he has his moment he can downhil really well. I remember di luca not being able to hold his wheel in downhil of milano torino 2007, where soler took big time on the opposition, but lost the inevetable sprint with di luca in the end.

now we are 4 years past and no good years either, still yesterday he had no problems following on the descending parts in the final, always up in front. with soler it's all in his head, only real enemy could be the rain, but he's not a bad downhiller, he just has trouble riding and manouvring in a peloton

looking at the TdS prologue, it seems Soler is not the catastrophic descender anymore he used to be...

we'll see... maybe we will be surprised, who knows...?

and he's never been. how many times has soler crashed in downhil compared to crashes in peloton? almost all of his crashes are bunch crashes

he won a stage in tour 2007 after like the longest downhil ever.

Is that Eurosport 2? My Sky is showing Eurosport as having MB World cup @ 1.00-2.05 (British time), TDS highlights 2.05-3.00, Live TDS 3.00-4.30, then Dauphine highlights @ 4.30-5.30.

Gerdemann loves attacking on descents, but I don't have huge faith that he'll be close enough to the front over the last summit to do anything.

1200 CEST weather observation at Meiringen (foot of the start of the last climb) is light rain.

1200 CEST weather observation at Grimsel (just below the top of the pass) +5C, no weather type reported.

Looks pretty grim at First-Grindelwald ( a little higher than the top of the Grosse Scheidegg).
