The feed (especially the commentators) was a mess today. Hopefully it will be different tomorrow.

The commentators on the web broadcast (at the ToU site) need a microphone switch - I kept hear them discuss "static" and I heard asistants (I assume) telling the commentator who was riding, etc.
I know the web commentators were doing their best and I appreciate the race commentary and the web coverage.

Again. What you were listening to was the production team recording segments for the TV show which will be broadcast in the US later tonight. That audio stream was NOT meant to be for public listening. They said it will be fixed for tomorrow.

Apologies for my absence! I've been travelling, and will be again tomorrow. Which sucks. Ironically, I'll be in Salt Lake City on Thursday, but I'll be too busy to catch any cycling. Sadface.

Anywho, I'd love to see one of the Spanish Giants pull this off. Both Mancebo and Sevilla have given a lot of attention to this race in the past, and their presence has earned a lot of media and fan attention.

A TVG prologue win would have been nice, too. Or Dave Z. (Interesting that Zabriskie doesn't qualify for the Utah rider jersey competition. His "home" is in Salt Lake City, IIRC.)

Congratulations to the "Little Known Colombian"

After they said that, they wrote this:

It was the young Colombian who stunned the crowd with his dominating performance, having not been tipped as a race favorite before the start. Henao, who hails from Rionegro near Medellin, won the 2010 Vuelta Colombia and the Grand Prix du Portugal and Cinturon a Mallorca in 2009, but though he's finished second in the Tour de Beauce in Canada, it is his first appearance on US soil.

Anyway, I like the parcours of the Tour of Utah. It is going to be a great race. :)

Isn't a 5 minutes all out performance an indicative of the full VO2 max??

I thought there was a formula that had a relation for the 5 minutes performance with VO2 max.

Well, this one is close.

The commentating was terrible. Along with the streaming. They repeated clips several times. But what annoyed me the most was that they just passed riders leaving the starthouse and arriving at the finish line. But I guess that's what you get when you have a prologue that short.

On a course like that pacing is paramount. I wouldn't read to much into any calculations based on yesterday's stage. Cool to see Henao win though!

Please see the above response. The audio from Steve and GoGo was not supposed to be broadcast on the tourtracker. It was a mistake in the set up and should not be repeated.

And no, I don't work with them or for them.

BMC failed dismally. What the hell happened to Bookwalter and Hincapie?
It was an uphill prologue... did you expect Bookwalter to beat the likes of Sevilla and Mancebo there?

Bookwalter finshed 28th and Hincapie 39th

Sevilla and Mancebo are way past there best and I dnever really thought Mancebo as being a good TT rider tho i could be wrong. Bookwalter and Hinacpie are known to be good in short itt's.

Being a good TTer doesn't help much in such a TT, being a good climber is more useful. And neither Bookwalter nor Hincapie is a very good climber.

I can't believe Jack Bauer finished 8th. Of course if he was from Holland instead of New Zealand, there would have been a thread claiming Bauer to be the next Hinault.

+1 Craig about Bauer.

You might be getting a little too carried away there. He beat Sevilla. At the Vuelta a Colombia he was beaten by Félix Cárdenas and, again, finished just ahead of Sevilla. No doubt he has talent, but for someone who is 23 and a half years old he hasn't been that impressive yet.

You like them carrots. You should be touting Mikel Landa as the next Contador instead.

He was beaten by Cardenas but hes only 23. He wasnt in top shape. He showed last year what he can do in top shape. Hes done very well in other South American races this year too so 10 Vuelta wasnt a one off.

And i like some of them Carrots, individually. It has nothing to do with the fact that they ride for Euskaltel. If Nieve or Samu were on any other team i would like them just the same.

Also Contador can tt. And descend. Landa on the other hand is Basque.

How about Andrew Anacona? He's like 19 and podiumed in the Baby Giro along with a stage win.

Another great talent. A few of them coming up. I like Monsalve for the Rujano successor position. And Quintana is another major talent of course.

So many others. Duarte is yet to reveal his full potential.

Its a long list of South American youngsters lining up. But at the moment SLH stands firmly at the front of the que.

I think we'll get to see Contador's successor when he already retired. Remember, Basso was called Armstrong's heir as well, but who would of thought that his heir was hidden in Armstrong's last pro team before his first retirement.

And this is just the Tour of Utah, 90% of the peloton sees this as a vacation ride. Plus Levi probably isn't in good shape and Zabriskie won't be either. These guys dropped out of the Tour. Well Levi didn't, but did anyone notice him? Hardly OMFG to see someone beat them.

Contador isnt Lances successor. Hes so much more than that. And a lot of people were supposed to be Lances successor. Wasnt Poppovych supposed to be too. Basso could have been if it wasnt that Puerto happened to hit immediately after the Lance years.

I apologize for my compatriots (or just my one compatriot, really), we're not all like that, I promise.

Bauer seems to be a good rider. He made the split in the Eneco Tour queen stage (i.e. only stage with hills) together with Bol, Sinkeldam, Dumoulin, and Ludvigsson, all of them having secured pro contracts for next year. And be honest: there's been a fair bit of hype around the guy, just not because of his great results :p

I think the overall will be in no particular order; Henao/ Sevilla, TJVG, Levi, Mancebo and Tommy D. It will be interesting and varied. No idea whether TJVG can match it with the others though, he does not really compete against this much climbing talent. Whoever looks good 10k out i tell you shall end up sucking 2k out from a climb.

Congrats to Henao. Where is Ryo???????????????

Hitch i also like Monsalve but Santoro is a talent as well. Will love them annihilating stages in future.

Maybe he wants to impress Greenedge or others with what he can do and had a proper go.
Anyway Ryo cant put the kiss of death onto Henao this race because he is not with us for a while(banned for a month I think) :p

Basso the next Lance ? He won his first Giro by riding like an alien according to Simoni which sounds like Evan's android description of Landis re 2006 mountain solo victory. Basso has a good grand tour record but I could never have seen him being as dominant as Contador or Armstrong. Cunego was another hyped to the heavens after his initial Giro win but then what happened ?

Which is a shame, I actually enjoyed his insight with columbian riders. Can't be arsed to scan obscure websites in various languages for this information myself. I seem to remember him talking about Henao developing from a climber into more of an all-rounder, having put on some weight in muscles etc. Wonder how that will affect him in the big mountains.

You really shouldn't pay attention to anything Ryo says, even about Colombian riders. He doesn't know what he is talking about 90% of the time. Did you miss that thread where an actual Colombian called him out on all his bull****?
