I think, personal opinion here, that he was hoping to use the crowd to block an a chase if hed hit it right, he would of had the ag2r rider between him and cobo, on a single lane hill, till cobo had got round he would have 10-20 seconds advantage, such planning is still possible in the days of race radios. Just my thoughts.

That would be the best thing to do if you knew you couldn't jump away. I would be very surprised (suspiciously surprised) if Froome could have replicated the attack of a few days ago. He had to feel some fatigue
