Froome should have attacked, broken Cobo, all his Geox teammates, plus the rest of the peloton, and then held them off for 46k on the flat. No idea why he didn't.
Why wouldn't he try? It's not like he needs to save his energy for tomorrow.

Unjustified criticism. In this stage you really can't attack on that climb. With 40km flat behind.
I never expected it either.
Agree.
Doesn't make any sense.

btw, yesterday they got much critic for trying "halfhearted". :D

Sky had to set the pace, break all sprinters and try to win a stage and bonus seconds. But they didn't.
And that never would have worked. Organisation would form behind, group would come back and in a 30 man sprint Froome has as much chance of winning boni seconds as Kenny van Hummel has to win a mountain stage

Well he's said several times he will give it all he has so that's probably why people expected sky to do something else than to just ride in the peloton.

He said he would give it a go if there is an opportunity a few days ago after Pena Cabarga. Bilbao was that only opportunity. He said before the stage today that he'll be happy to just keep his place because the course doesn't allow for attacks.

Giving his all doesn't mean making utterly pointless attacks that have zero chance of succeeding. Look at the size of the peloton that would be chasing him.

The sun is shining, there's sea around reflecting it, and Cobo is not even wearing sunglasses. I guess not being able to see a **** increases his chances of falling though.
