What has Paulinho done in a mountain to be considered a favourite to win from such a strong break?

Yeh, he might be my 7th or 8th selection for the win, no higher.

not Bernabeu

Who?;) He was consistently dropped like a stone on Volta a Portugal. So I didn't expected him to kick-*** on this Vuelta. But he's been even worse than what I expected.

Oh... My bad. I'm watching on a stream during a lecture... So I saw a Geox rider behind the peloton and the law of probabilities led me straight to Menchov.

Can you blame me?

Lectures in August.WTF.

I was seriously considering going there for a second degree, especially since i heard somewhere it was free or that they even pay for you or something of the sort.

But if you have lectures in August i have to reconsider. In London I still have 5 wees left of a 6 month holiday.

I don't think he's the favourite and I agree he's at best top5 climber in this break. Besides he doesn't seems to be in top shape.

Anyway he's a strong climber. He was the 4th man in Astana train up the Ventoux in 2009 just behind Kloden, Armstrong and Contador, hanging there until the first moves from Schleck.

16th Vuelta 2006 (15th Covatilla, 23rd Pandera, 18th Cobertoria). And 12th in Fuentes de Inverno on the 2008 Vuelta.

So my point is that he isn't the best in the break but he certainly has a few nice results and performances in the mountains.

Matt Rendell just saying Andalucia haven't got much to show for this Vuelta so far. When was the last time they have had something to show for in it? Most recent thing I can see is a stage win in 2007.

Ok, these SIDI shoe commercials are only getting worse. I thought they've hit a low point with Pozatto last year, but I think this one's even more ***

Paulinho has won the most difficult mountain stage in Portugal some years ago, in a mountain that is a lot similar to this one.

My favourite ftw is Duarte, but I'm always rooting for the portuguese.

Was it the cooking a shoe one with Basso + Nibali?

Don't know why but it makes me laugh, they just look so daft! Pozatto's was just disturbing!

Admittedly, Paulinho as been off in the mountains as of late: he was bounced back quite a few steps in Shack's hierarchy, and he's done nothing but grunt work.
However, the quality is there. He made top 20 in the '06 Vuelta as Vino and Kashechkin's liutenant, and won a stage in a very similar fashion as today's: mountains, big break, and good adversaries. And pardon me if I'm wrong, but Moncoutie and Duarte can't compare to Pellizotti and Rebellin.

It's just a shame he lost his spot.

Yeah, the cooking shoe one. Don't know why, but cooking a shoe makes me even more disturbed than seeing Pozatto
