I like it. Won't satisfy those who complained about too much distance between climbs at the end, given the final part is the same, but I'm looking forward to this a lot.

I dont think Canc will ever focus on Lombardia, but lets say Lombardia was the worlds course, would Fabian not have a chance?

I mean are people like Gilbert or Greg Van Avermaet neccesarly so much better in the mountains than Canc? Yeah they have done very good in the Ardennes classics but Canc has never tried them really and on those occasions he peaks for a one day race more suited to climbers (Beijing, Mendrisio) he has proved hisself as good as these guys.

Exactly. I don't think Canc would be the favourite like in Flanders or Roubaix, but if he would focus on it, he would definitly be a factor in the race. Even more in a season as disappointing as this one, where there must be a little bit of rage in him.

Anyway, that muro di sormano looks like hell.. Should be a nice race to watch :)

What's all the writing on the climb?
Loosely translated:
"This climb is simply brutal, impossible to climb" [E.Baldini]
To be read from the bottom to the top

So, the Muro has come back. I didn't see it coming tbh. It doesn't fix the flat issue, but it would certainly provide more chances for the climbers. It'll be interesting.

Evans is confirmed for this. With decent form he could do well but that depends on what Gilbert is doing and his condition.

It looks like they also added > 10 extra flat kms somewhere before the first climb.

If a team wants to (say Saxo) they could make the race incredibly hard on Valcava and the early part of the climb to Sormano. The climbers could attack the Muro and it would be a long time before the rouleurs are back to chase. On this route, it's more possible that someone from the Gilbert/Nibali group of last year could stay away.

If those hills suit him, then I don't see what hill doesn't.

Well they're fairly short compared to the high passes of the alps and Pyrenees aren't they? I'm looking at the route on my phone. He seems to manage the shorter, steeper hills ok, it's the longer climbs that seem to do him in. Although I don't think we've really seem what him can do in the hills yet.

Both Valcava and Sormano (taken into account the Muro) are full HC... It's true they are shorter and steeper than the French climbs... but this holds true for almost every Italian climb. If those hills "suit" him, then he can definitely win the Giro one day :D
