How many Spaniards were there in the group? Only Samu?

Uran, Henao and Quintana are all Colombians...

Uran certainly did chase, but maybe not Berto or Sammu...then evenone starts looking at seach other. Who knows really? Just speculating.

Samu was just about the last guy to make it across to the group, by the time he'd settled into it and caught a bit of a breather, Purito was gone. Contador is the only one who just sat in and did nothing.

And Urán is Colombian, so would not be part of any apparent Spanish conspiracy. Besides, when it was just the 5 there (Santambrogio, Uran, Henao, Contador and Quintana) it made sense for Santambrogio, Berto and Nairo to sit on and not contribute, because Sky had the advantage of numbers. It's about making the guys who are in the best position to win if the group comes back together do the work to bring it back together, to maximise your own chances of winning.

So does anyone know what the specific reason Gilbert had for exiting. Safebet said fear or something like that earlier in this thread, doesn't seem like a great reason to exit a race though.

Curious that in the Vuelta Contador was hoping for rain - to make a difference between him as Purito - lucky he didn't have to rely on that!

Rain favours the risktaker which in Contadors case was him as the guy chasing and with nothing to lose. Purito was defending.

Today though Purito was just as willing to take risks.

My pictures were murky, and did not que on Sumu, confused on Uran for a moment, but should have not been. The efforts to jump across are hard at this distance so the looking or waiting will happen apart from any national coop as you said if it comes back, hence the wait... anyway a great win for Purito. I spoke without a thought, sorry.

well done to purito but that wasn't a great race at all. incredible that in this age we didn't have images.send the freaking army for christ's sake, send some planes, throw something into the clouds

very disappointed by the italians, that was some pathetic riding to be honest

Wait.
I just said Lelangue, interviewd by Rai, stated that he wasn't injured and that he was more scared than sore.
