very impressive climbing by Hesjedal, looking stronger than the featherweights on 10% slopes but also very unimpressive descending by the canadian, how the hell can an ex-mtb pro not drop Basso downhill....

Well how hard would you want to work if you had JRod sitting on your wheel not coming through to take a turn. I wasn't surprised when he eased off.

Hi,
Basso had a little gap at ~1.2km to go. It seemed more to me as he stopped pedaling than hejsedal catching him. Did I read that wrong? If not, why didn't he keep going?

Hesjedal refused to come through, so Basso put in a little dig to show that he wasn't going to just lead them to the line. Then Hesjedal had to close him down.

Some people are impossible to please. The race blows to pieces at 25km to go with everyone on their limits, but the stage sucks.

Yes, it blew into pieces at 25 km to go, because there was the Giau. It still was boring. There was a Basso who can't accelerate, a Purito who never wanted to go, a Scarponi who was weak, a Hesjedal who is in the best position, and two outsider.
Today simply nothing really happened, only we know, that only 4 rider can win the Giro. That's all.

Is that really true though? Surely if he has only 30 seconds on Hesjedal before the ITT he will lose.

I think that JRod, Basso, and Scarponi still aren't treating Hesjedal like a real contender. They expect him to crack one of these days, and so are only thinking about each other.

Is Hesjedal that great a TTer? I know he was best of the contenders in the opening ITT, but other than that I've never know him to be a world beater. 30 seconds might be enough.

Looks like Sky actually knew what they were doing by having Captain Uranium as their leader...

Henao is a great talent, but he needs a little more time to develop to reach his potential in GTs. Next year or 2014 at the latest he will be a real force.

Kreuziger 11.26

26th place finisher Felline was the last one to finish less than 10 minutes back.

26 guys within 10 mins of the winner.

But apparently the stage sucked.

What is wrong with some of the people on this forum.

Given how bad the racing had been until now, and therefore how open the GC looked, that's actually quite a significant development.

there was very little action in the front group. Just because there are few riders close to the leaders doesn't mean the stage was good. It was pretty disappointing TBH.

Pozzo will need to take 5 or 6 minutes in two stages given his crap time trial. He blew it big time today, looked like he had the legs to take some real time if he had been bothered.
Even if he had got a minute on the climb - the chaser would have caught him on the descent ... it was just too far IMO

I don't think it's so much that Hesjedal is outstanding, as it is that JRod is weak.

From what I'm reading, they only moved a bit in the last kms of the last climb. Now look at the profile of the whole stage.

Lol i cannot understand how people find this stage disappointing but i guess some people don't understand hard tempo riding and the effect it has.
Especially weird that the Evans fan DWLSSONIC doesn't get it. Evans does exactly the same really

42nd place was the last to finish less than 20 minutes after the leader. Szmyd came home at 20.03 (not unexpected perhaps but still a lot).
