This isn't the 2004 route. He can gain all the minutes he wants in a breakaway like the did that time, but this time the next few stages are actually hard enough to make him lose all of it and more.

Not to mention this time he doesn't have a ludicrously strong team to pace him back to the favorites when he gets dropped like he did that time.
