If he pulls a Pereiro so huge to make him win, 160 riders will miss the time cut that very stage.

I doubt they would use the cut limit if that happend :D

I could see Ryo bet some money on that if possible with bookmakers though :p

The peloton was outside the time limit when Pereiro pulled a Pereiro too though.

"Why Mark, were you angry with Guardini?"

Reponse: "Because I hate losing."

Now that's all well and good, however, his gesture at the line can only be considered poor class, since Guardini did a correct sprint. You just don't do that and I've never seen a sprinter of his caliber (or any caliber for that matter) get beat fair and square, and then become hystrionic like a spoiled brat.

It's like, "I lose" you deserve a thrashing! Just weak. Or put differently it's like it was Guardini's "fault" for winning.

I take it you didn't see Alessandro De Marchi finishing second on stage 16, then?
Moreover, that wasn't in the same instant, but over half a minute later.

Shocking: a pro cyclist gets momentarily angry at narrowly finishing second. Whatever next?

Thx. Saw few people calling it Lanterne Rouge so I thought that was acceptable :p I'd still say Guardini will get maglia nera at the end though ;)

Hey, we have a nailbiter going on here. I do think Euskaltel could take it, after all Guardini has to mark two guys on the Stelvio, I could imagine that being kinda confusing and it DEFINITELY is a big advantage.

Cav gave up before the line again when he realised he wasn't going to win. He always does that. It very nearly cost him second place. If it had, it would have been funny if that was the difference between winning and losing the red jersey.

Wasn't that the case in the 2010 Tour?

You mean like Romain and Brice Feillu are the same type of rider?

:( I said the guy who said "What kind of rider is DV anyway?" might have been expecting him to be more similar to Jelle, not "ALL BROTHERS ARE THE SAME".

I was expecting to wake up to find out Cav had won ( again ). I am glad not- congrats to Guardini.

Cavs' team is not as good as HTC lead out wise so this will keep on happening ( hopefully resulting in closer sprints ).

Unless...
"Get out of the way Andrea, I can see my house from here!"
"Get out of the way Andrea, I'm trying to wave at my wife!"
"Andrea I'm really stoked for you, congratulations, my face may look angry but I'm just stoked!"

Don't think he would be saying "stoked"

What Cavendish has to say on the subject.
"Pretty angry to be beaten today when my team set me up like today. I was lazy and left the sprint 50m too late. Congrats Andrea Guardini, you were FAST."

He was said to be too fat after his poor showing in MSR, so is he perhaps using this event to lean-off ready for the Tour and Olympics?

I thought he was quite lean actually. He in my view either over-trained ( past his peak ) or his sickness/ crashes affected him.
