Cav gets 8 points, if he wins today he will lead by 34 points, which may be enough to win jersey considering that katusha doesnt care at all
Why should they care when Rosa is prettier than Rossa? ;)

He was said to be too fat after his poor showing in MSR, so is he perhaps using this event to lean-off ready for the Tour and Olympics?

Opinions please?

I've often wondered this, the strongest teams who ride on the front all day, continue being able to ride on the front all day. Is it because they're really the better teams, or is it because they work their team so hard that they end up fitter...

Is that OPQ helping Sky out there?

In 2008 he finished the Giro, winning 2 stages, and then went to the Tour where he won four stages before dropping out at the end of the second week.
And had horrible shape when he got to the Olympics. I don't think he'll try that approach again.

Did he really though? I thought the point was that after the pursuit medals, Wiggins was out of gas by the time the Madison came around, and left Cavendish high and dry - isn't that why they didn't speak for years afterwards?

Cav had no legs that day either

No way will Cav want to give up his hold on the "King of the Champs Elysees" jersey.

Depends how much he wants a gold helmet

Actually he had quite good shape in the Madison for the Olympics it was Bradley that was in bad shape after the individual and team pursuits

After this Giro I suspect he will skip the Tour and join Thor at the Tour of Poland for his Olympic warmup.

Certainly was a low point in their relationship.
I do think the Madison "failure (9th)" was more down to Wiggo than Cav.

It was obvious that the medal placings would need a lap on the field. That was Wiggos job, not Cavs

I think trunnions is just talking about Cav. Anyway the other sprinters' teams could prolly do the same if they had to, and particularly if they had a stage win almost guaranteed like Sky do.

No possibility of him choosing to miss the Tour.
Which is why I suspect, he must be using the Giro to get the extra five kilos of flab removed.

They were marked even more heavily than when they somehow managed to win the Worlds in '08.

That's where you're wrong it was Wiggins who was in bad shape for the madison after all the work done for his sprint golds. Wiggins was greedy wanting 3 golds after their success at the worlds but they forgot that at the olympics there would be more qualifying rounds to get through. It is wildly accepted that Cav was the strong one that day.

The danish commentators on Eurosport poking a bit fun at Sella, saying it was one of the first time they have seen him in this giro (when the 6 guys tried to break). Then they said that he hasnt really had any results after getting back from his doping offense, and maybe that said a lot all by itself. Then they joked that he might have changed into a flat course racer now, since he tried the break :)

Also true. Hard to get away and get the lap under those circumstances.

I remember in his first comeback year he was riding the Volta a Portugal and he was getting in breaks in all the pan flat stage and I was like: "Wasn't this guy a climber?! What the hell?" So maybe he'll turn into some sort of Cancellara in the near future :)

Somebody tweet Harmon to explain how there are 2 different competitions, at least, using the intermediate sprints and he should know that.
