Who was it that said Menchov had a kick???
How did Garzelli beat Bettini in a sprint?

menchov hasn't a kick.just like evans.they start their sprint with 300-350 meters to go and simply ride everyone off their wheels.tremendous power, tremendous engines.also levi in colorado last year.

i don't think it was a sprint.gibo attacked and bettini was cracking.garzelli even now has a terrible fast sprint

Looking at things by region, I’m very happy with the response from Germany because the commitment shown by NetApp and Project 1t4i was astounding.
Slip of the tongue, or harbinger of the future with the rumoured German sponsor to come on board?

I didn't know he was down for the Giro. I simply went with the riders I thought likely to do it. I feel Pardilla is likely to do it owing to his time in Italy in his career, and Quintana as young Colombians and the Giro just seem to go hand in hand.

A couple of things; maybe they felt that they could grab some attention for the Giro in Germany (big potential audience even if the media is against it), and maybe Jens Heppner called in a favour. Maybe the sponsors put in some money towards the Giro's coverage abroad or something else.

Maybe, however, this is about something else for the Giro; NetApp have 17 riders. NetApp the company are based in Sunnydale, California, and have done some sponsorship of the Tour of California. 9 of those 17 will be needed in Italy.

Who doesn't?

Very true, but also losing Paolini will definitely be a blow to their presence in a lot of those other races.

And the Bayern Tour would be important for them as well.

As for inviting a team from a country that vilifies cycling and hardly televises it at all, what on earth were they thinking?

OK guys, let’s take another look:

If you will not invite one from Italian teams (any, it has not be AS), how many Italian fans will stay home from those decided to be present in person by the road?

If you will invite NettApp, you can be prepared for increase of several hundreds fans from Czech Rep., coming for minimum of 1 week (many for the whole Giro), who are hungry for the atmosphere as in Czech there was for long time none rider to cheer. They will be ready to stand by the road every single day from given time, sun or rain (or snow).
There was limited number of fans coming for Kreuziger, but if 3 Czechs (+ Konig, Barta) will ride this year, something close to madness already starts in CZ cycling forums, people are planning vacations according to Giro just because this invitation.

And don’t be fooled, many Germans do care about cycling and are very angry for not having TV coverage, they are on stream or foreign sport channels to watch cycling, as it is very popular, by coverage almost banned by authorities. So this may be small paths how to get the coverage back to Germany too.

This reminds me of the story about the Chicken with two little chicks. One very ill and one healthy. Then the Chicken kills the healthy chick to make soup for the ill one.

From a cycling point of view the excuse is unacceptable. I hope there are other reasons because there are other teams more deserving of this invitation.

That story just broke my heart! Is it about Rasmussen? Cause I have never seen a chicken make soup.

how is 1T4i not on the top of everyone list? Kittel, Degenkolb, Gretsch, Klemme, Stamsnijder should be in all the big races this year

And is their super team of 5 going to ride every single WT race? If they want to take their strongest team to the Tour (as they should) then they won't want to take a stacked team to the Giro as well, else they'll be knackered.

waking up with amazing news:

there still is a chance acqua e sapone will get a 5th wildcard!!!!
palmiro masciarelli is doing everything he can and he has all the support from the italian fans.my guess is that they will be invited if they set tirreno-adriatico on fire.
expect garzelli, betancourt and above all di luca to go full-gas there.
there is hope :)

I had hope for this, especially after seeing all the negative comments on the facebook page.

Give Garzelli the send off he deserves

I agree, would be a shame if he had to end his career with just the Tirreno overall under his belt in 2012 :D

Garzelli said that he would continue on for one more year if A&S doesn't get that 5th wildcard.
