The WC is right at the doorstep.

16 days. Sagan himself

"It has been difficult to keep my form after the Tour de France. I had a short break but then I trained well. My form is on the rise, but it will only be at the Worlds that I'll be at the top."

Imo, Sagan looked well on his way today to be in great shape at the Worlds. You apparently think otherwise. People disagree, that's fine.

He's not going from this shape to super shape in the span of 16 days. His shape will be good, but super shape is what made him win 4 stages at Tour de Suisse and 3 stages plus green jersey at the Tour.

Of course he's going to say his form will keep rising, that's a cliché answer.

Six man team afaik. Sagan bros, Velits bros and two more.

They will have no problem deciding who is the captain of that team. But the team is strong, I would not discount them if they do not have a lot of superstars. They only need one!

200m. And on an uphill finish. Too early. If you watched this race last year and year before you'd know. Also GvA should know himself. He raced here before

I think I saw a 150m mark at the left, but anyway have you seen how quickly Gerrans managed to come round GVA after this? Like 50m or so... IMO GVA had (almost) no chance.

So what was "this shape" exactly? Some might say that his shape was very good today but he made an tactical error and left it too late and had to chase too hard which burned him out. When he went after GVA and Gerrans he opened up a huge gap to the rest of the bunch fairly quick, which showed me that his punch was very solid so late in the race.

Edit: Agree that it will be hard to get i TdF shape, but that was otherworldly shape, if he gets close to that shape he will be a contender at the worlds. Sure, it won't be easy to win, considering his team is not that strong, but I never claimed he would win.

I am still wondering in my head how people on the forum are talking about Purito as a potential winner, and yet when i look at the bookies odds the Cav is favourite. I mean they are both great riders but on quite different terrains ! How precisely does this finish and why could they both be in it. Surely if it is in the middle then a classics man like Gilbert has the best chance or so.

Btw Gerrans definitely a favorite for the worlds in my opinion. With the finish after the Cauberg instead of on the Cauberg even more so because it becomes a race similar to MSR (but with more hills on the way ofcourse)

Lol no way. There's no descent after the Cauberg which is where the race was won at this year's MSR. Besides, normally he should get blown away by the guys from the Vuelta.

And the finish is only a km after the Cauberg. Poggio is further from the finish.

Gerrans is almost always good at AGR as well. Race that suits him the most of the ardennes classics

We'll see mr. No way ;)

Well, Worlds is a very different race compared to AGR, he can be there at the finish or he could be already dropped by the final lap too.

No way this race is anything like Milan-San Remo. ;)

The only reason he won San Remo was because he sucked wheel anyway. The only time he was decent in an Ardennes classic was AGR 2011. I wouldn't say he's always good ;)

I would normally have discounted Gerrans as he is not able to go solo, and would lose sprints to Gilbert, Valverde, Rodriguez, etc. (or so I thought because he has beaten Van Avermaet now  )

Cavendish is bookies favourite:confused::confused:

May be because the bookies are British and they don't know anything about cycling.

Check the course yourself and decide whether Cavendish can win.

After his 2012 season, underestimate Gerrans at your own peril.

If anything people over-rated him during the Ardennes classics this year. ;)

I'm just saying, the WC course has little in common with Milan-San Remo. Besides, he can't suck Fabian's wheel this time.
