What about Leipheimer and Klöden?

The winner will be an all rounder.

To be honest, I'm more surprised that there are actually bookmakers in the UK that know Paris-Nice exists

Bauke Mollema didn't show that much in Andalucia though, so I wouldn't name his as one of the top favourites.
He usually needs some racing under the belt to be good, he said towards the end of the week his form was coming along. Still not one of the top favourites for me, but that's more because of the course.

I have had three cycling bets today.

Alejandro Valverde at 6/1 for Paris Nice with Victor Chandler
Bradley Wiggins at 13/2 for Paris Nice with Boylesports

Alessandro Ballan for Strade Bianche at 8/1 (can't remember where...I have a few accounts).

I don't like talking up my bets but AV and BW are big favourites to me. Obviously Menchov, Klodi and Levi are dangers, and anything can happen in cycling. The fact that Coppel was put in as a favourite shows how little bookmakers know about cycling.

Coppel is a decent rider with an outside chance of a top 5 if he puts it together but an on-form Wiggo, Alejandro, Denis, Klodi or Levi would kill him.

I checked Paddy Power website earlier. They are doing nothing on Paris-Nice but they are doing Strade Bianche which is a surprise.

And anyway what i am on about is that you never see the odds displayed inside the bookies themselves in Ireland. I remember last year i had to ask over the counter in Paddy Power for the odds on the Tour coz they werent displayed and that was in the week leading up to it.

Get an account;) They will have odds for PN overall and stages and maybe specials. Just have to keep checking when they are up. Same with any of the big tours. And all of the one day classics. You can even get live betting on a lot of races. I've already had bets on with them at Quatar, KBK and Het Volk.

Small losses so far but Nibs will turn that around at SB on Sunday;)

I like Valverde at those odds.

Slightly off topic boys and girls, but I posted in another thread about this too: with regards to odds, Cavendish is 7/2 for Milan SanRemo with Lads, 4/1 elsewhere. Would it be better if I wait nearer the time for other bookies to release their odds or will these be the best odds I will get? Thanks.

I fancy Wiggins for PN, looked in good form helping Porte last week, but Valverde is always a threat.

I personally wouldnt bet on anyone at 4-1 in MSR. Too much shenanigans can happen.

7-2 is quite good odds considering that is 3.5-1. Also it will probably go down when people realise he just won KBK and probably a stage or so at T-A ( no more hiding tactics like in 09 when he was not a WC/ trying to hide )

Historically, Paris Nice has never been a high mountain race.

Flat short TT
2 hilly uphill finishes
steep medium mountain finish
Short Mountain TT.

That's as classic Paris Nice as it gets.

Criticism on this route is simply ridicilous.

But Paris Nice is a race where actually all the contenders try to go all in.
Dauphine is a nice race, but it's just a preperation race and you never know who is going full throttle, and who isn'T.
Dauphiné is the mini, and always get half of TdF main contenders.

Where was the comment you're responding to criticising that?

It's just that without mountains, can it really be a mini-Tour de France?

To which the sarcastic response was, in 2012, yes. But that's because of the atypically flat Tour route, not because of the typical Paris-Nice route.
