Of course winning FW would be more important to him, but it's not like sacrificing TA will mean he'll be a top favourite for FW or like his palmares has so many victories he can start choosing, is it? Vandendert couldn't win TA, but he could win a stage.

I thought it was pretty clear he couldn't? Do you think he would have left this race if he won yesterday's stage for example? Of course not, because he could have won again today if that was the case. But he couldn't. He's just missing the time trial, big deal...

He has 3 peaks: Ardennes, Tour and Worlds.

Who the hell builds his season around Fleche Wallonne? Come on, Vanendert abandoning here if he's not sick or anything is just lame. Andy Schleck-like, but without the palmares.

Where did anyone say that?

We're not talking about abandoning before the final stage, but about riding TA with no ambition and just as preparation:
I don't know, yesterday he said he was just here to make kilometers, he had no ambitions at all
And who said it is a big deal? I just think it's silly and presumptuous.

just to make it clear, that wasn't a 100% quotation, just from my memory what I read in Het Nieuwsblad this morning (and I don't speak any dutch, I do understand what it's about from speaking german, english and a bit of french - but not every term of course).

what he actually said is:

"Zo'n zware bergrit zo vroeg op het seizoen is niets voor mij. Ik had een hongerklop. Dan weet je dat het voorbij is. Goed, dit is het einde niet. Het doel is zoveel mogelijk kilometers malen. Het seizoen is nog lang. Ik moet later op de afspraak staan."

and my translation, amendments are welcome:

"Such a difficult climb that early in the season, that's not my cup of tea. I had a bonk. Then you know that it's over. Well, that's not the end of the world. The target is to make as many kilometer as possible. The season is long. I have to deliver results later on"

That's weird.. the previous day the RCS didn't even count Poels as young rider. In the classifications he didn't have a G behind his name and he wasn't in the maglia blanca classification pdfs...

Today they suddenly do decide he counts :p

How I would laugh if Purito Rodriguez miraculously out-chronoed Hoogerland, Scarponi and Noncenti tomorrow and got 4th in GC.
