In the assumption that Wiggins remains in yellow for the rest of the tour, everyone who has him has 140 yellow jersey points to come. That would be bad news for Goldenboot9, our current leader, who is, other than Fool on the hill, the only competitor in the top 8 (everyone else is >200 points off the pace) that does not have Wiggins in his team. So who is best positioned to take over?
Only 4 points separate Search and Swaqser, 2nd and 3rd in the rankings: the likelihood of sprint points for Goss on Monday, Friday and in Paris seem to place the advantage with Search, and barring the collapse of JVDB, I think he will emerge victorious. Swaqser's only other chance of making the top of the podium would seem to be mountain wins, and moves higher up the top 10 on GC, from Rolland and Brajkovic. Hunta will be hoping to see Nibali overhaul Froome to improve his position: Hilltop and I wishing for the same for Evans.
But basically, Search's second behind Goldenboot9 at the moment looks like the second places of Roche in 1986, Lemond in 1990, or Evans in 2011, on the eve of the final timetrial.
