BBC:
Q/
Bradley Wiggins, after dominating the stage nine time trial to extend his overall lead in the Tour de France: "We have had two tough days and time-trialing is what I do best. I know exactly the routine what I need to do. I felt great from the first pedal stroke and I knew I was in for a good one.

"This is what we have trained for. The graft during the winter, missing the kid's birthday having been at training camps, this is what it is for. To get the stage win is fantastic."

JvdB a bit disappointing btw. I expected him top 15... :( Now he is too far in GC. Hopefully he will attack like 2009

I honestly don't care anymore. I'm actually glad he sucked, finishing around 2 minutes off Wiggins would've been strange.

I'm a Brit and, although I have no hard evidence, sadly, I have to admit that I am highly suspicious at this point. Much as I would love to see a British victory in the Tour, I want it to be a fairly won one.

Ma'am, you should have heard what Bradley had to say to people like you last night at his Press call.

Then you'd eat your words.

Did you care when OPQS were magically beyond everyone on cobbles ?

Maybe you should try watching his performance in the TT at last years Tour. That would save you making such a silly statement.

So me saying some people slightly overestimate Evans’ Time Trialing ability was silly was it? I love you guys who are so vocal in ignorantly lambasting folk’s predictions. Almost as much fun as the race itself when the inevitable happens...

I even overestimated Evans myself today, I was convinced he would be the top BMC rider even though I was expecting a sub-par performance from him given his first week's performance and his desperate attempt to steal a few seconds at the end of yesterdays stage. He could struggle to podium now, but Menchov & VdB did worse than I was thinking, so he’ll probably still hold onto it.

Cancellara showing that last year wasn't a blip, he really is past his prime. Martin probably would have had him despite being banged up, but for his puncture 5kms in.

In my opinion, Wiggins is exactly the rider Lance Armstrong always claimed to be. Wiggins really seems to be this 1% ahead in concerns of professionality.
Just look at his season.

Build-up, 10th in Algarve, wins Paris-Nice, withdraws from Catalunya to stay healty (terrible conditions in stage 3 on this Wednesday where the stage was shortened), wins Romandie, goes to Tenerife for weeks, returns to win Dauphine, recovers well, and now second after the prologue, gets Yellow after an accident-free first week, and builds advantage now.

Really, really impressive. I followed him just like I followed Menchov since December 2011. I had confidence in Menchov, he had his own approach with single focus on the Tour (like Ullrich had), and was only worried after his knee problems increased, which forced him to abandon Romandie - so hats off also to Menchov. Wiggins almost shows the perfect season, big, big respect to him.

Future years will be hard for him though, with Contador returning. And, though no one would´ve imagined that, the biggest Tour times for the Schlecks might be already over - but the same was said about Boonen, and he returned after worse years.

Large disappointments for Rabobank and especially Gesink. Neither in the Ardennes, nor in the Tour, Gesink fulfilled expectations. He will face large salary decreases.

Hello troll. You do realise he broke his leg 8 months ago?
And he fell this Tour?

Seriously... lol. Btw he renewed his contract this year for 3 more years.

Fit Contador on top form would win this year, and he'll probably win next year.

Weak field this year.

weak field? only contador serving a doping ban and andy schleck are missing. schleck would lose 5min + in ITTs and contador isn't there for a good reason.

Yes, his leg broke. It was healed. He won Tour of California in May.

He fell this Tour. He falls in every stage race. Just bad luck?

They renewed his contract for three years. Klöden got his one renewed in after 2000 for three or four years. He showed not much, he got paid less year after year. Don´t know Gesink´s contract conditions though, TBH.

I think folks are getting overly pessimistic.
All the pre Tour talk was about kicking Wiggins in the mountains.
All it takes is one bad day.
Lelangue is taking about all out attacking from now on.
Surely that's a plus?

It's gonna need an Ullrich on Les Deux Alpes-esque failure from both Froome and Wiggins.

There are some obvious parallels to a certain 1999.

The two biggest out in cycling are currently out. Like Pantani, Contador is serving a controversial ban, while Schleck misses the tour with injury, much like Ullrich.

Out of the shadows storms Wiggins, the former non-climbing TT specialist to Tour glory.

I'm not suggesting anything that belongs in the clinic, just noticing the interesting parallels. Not exactly the same, but similar enough...

Anyone know what happened to Zabriskie? His time straight up sucked. Battling injuries?

Garmin are beat up. I think Zabriskie is probably worn out from the headscratching tactics of JV over the last few days, while VdV, a very good TTer in his own right, finished way down after finishing with the lead group behind Evans and Wiggo yesterday.

Besides all the crap innuendo, I think they are all nursing injuries of one sort or another as they have all hit the tarmac at some point.

contador's ban is not controversial - unless you are call alberto contador. armstrong was never a good tt rider, see indurain catching him for 3 mins in 1996. and you are insinuating that sky are doping, give it a rest. are you gonna call everyone who wins a cheat?

Great ride by Wiggins and Froome. This team Sky are great. I like how they crush the competition in this time trial.
I wish Contador was at the tour de France.
